Weekly Update

Parents,
It’s our last week of school before Thanksgiving Break! The time has flown by. Here is an overview of what your student will be learning this week. Watch for communication shortly about our first out-of-school field trip coming up on December 2nd.
ELA:
We will explore the theme of a text, specifically focusing on realistic fiction. This will allow students to connect with characters and situations that reflect real life. Additionally, we will practice phonics with an emphasis on open syllables, enhancing our reading and pronunciation skills.

Math:
In mathematics, we will divide decimals up to the hundredth place. This foundational skill is crucial for understanding more complex mathematical concepts and applying them in real-world scenarios.

Science:
Our science curriculum will include a review of the RISE Benchmark, where we will recap important concepts related to earth systems. This review will help reinforce our knowledge and prepare students for future explorations in the natural world.

We are excited about the engaging activities and discussions that will unfold next week. Encourage your students to ask questions and share what they are most eager to learn!

Halloween Party Volunteers sign up.

Please use this sign-up sheet for our Halloween Party if you are willing and able to. The party will be from 10:30-11:30 and 15-minute rotations. Also, if you have not filled out the treat form I sent out at the beginning of the year please do so now.

First I will need two volunteers to come up with a game. This game does not need to be extravagant it can be as simple as bingo Halloween. If you do sign up please put what game you are planning on bringing so the other knows.

I need one volunteer to do a craft this craft can be anything you would like. If you want to do a how-to-draw off of YouTube you can, and we can put it on my computer to the TV.

Lastly, I will need a volunteer to help pass out the treats and just have a chill time.

If you do not get to the sign-up and would like to help please let me know. You are more than welcome to come and just help those who have a game or the craft.

Oct 21st – Oct 25th

Thank you all for attending parent-teacher conferences. We appreciate your engagement and support as we continue our learning journey this school year.

English Language Arts (ELA)
Next week in ELA, we will explore the wonderful world of folktales. Students will deepen their understanding of narrative structure and literary elements by analyzing the plot, setting, and themes of these traditional stories. Additionally, we will focus on inflectional endings to strengthen our spelling skills. Our work on our spooky Halloween stories will also continue as students refine their creative writing abilities.

Mathematics
In math, we expand our number sense by reading, writing, and understanding decimals. Students will explore the relationship between decimals and place value, learning to fluently convert decimal and standard forms. We will also revisit the concept of powers of ten, building on our previous lessons to solidify our understanding of this important mathematical principle.

Science
Our science exploration is focused on Earth’s intricate systems. We will delve into the geosphere (the solid Earth), the biosphere (the living world), the cryosphere (the frozen parts of the planet), the hydrosphere (the water cycle), and the atmosphere (the gaseous envelope surrounding the Earth). By understanding how these systems interact, students will gain a deeper appreciation for the complex and dynamic nature of our home planet.
