January 1-5

Families, I hope everyone had an amazing holiday season! I just can’t believe we are about halfway through the school year and already into 2024. I will spend some time with my class discussing setting academic goals for this upcoming year and plans to achieve those goals. I’m looking forward to catching up with them!

Note that Middle of the Year (MOY) acadience testing will start on 16 January. Ensure your students read for 20 minutes each day during the break. They have been working so hard, and I can’t wait to see how much they have improved since the beginning of the year.

We are off school Monday, 1 January, and will start fresh and ready to go Tuesday! In math, we are continuing to work with multiplying fractions. In ELA, we will start a new unit (Unit 4) and discuss and read about what people can do to bring about positive change.

Dates to note:

  • 1 Jan-     No school (New Year’s Day)
  • 15 Jan-   No School (Martin Luther King Jr. Day)
  • 26 Jan-  Dollar Dress Down
  • 31 Jan-   Parent-Teacher conferences and Early-out (1:10)
  • 1 Feb-     Parent-Teacher conferences and Early-out (1:10)
  • 2 Feb-    No School-Teacher Work Day

Dec 11-15

Hello everyone!

I must start with the best news! 2 weeks ago, we began our math lesson on fractions, and this past week, when I tested my class, we scored a class average of 93%!! I am always so proud of their hard work, and this past week, they really hit it out of the park!! #proudteachermoment

We are on the countdown to Christmas break, with lots of learning and fun along the way! A few items to note: Friday is a PAJAMA day, and we will have our holiday party then, too! We will play games, watch the 2018 Grinch cartoon, eat popcorn, and drink hot chocolate. Please sign the permission slip if you haven’t yet. I’m still looking for parent volunteers to help that day; please let me know if you are available.

Please check the lost and found by Friday for any outerwear (box in the main foyer) and lost water bottles (in the lunchroom). Any items not claimed will be disposed of/donated over the break.

Lastly, your students are absolutely amazing and wonderful! I’m so grateful to be their teacher.

Thank you for all that you do! Happy Holidays!

Mrs. Robinson

Holiday Party- December 15

Families,

We will celebrate the holiday season with a class party on Friday, 15 December. Below is a permission slip for your students to watch “The Grinch” (2018) and have some holiday treats.

Also, I am looking for at least four or five parents to volunteer to create a game/craft for our students. I plan to have games/activities from 9:00-10:15, so it would help if you could be there that entire time so I can have the students rotate through different parent activities. Please message me and let me know if you can help!

Nov 13-17

Hello Families,

Please mark your calendars for the following upcoming events:

  • Friday, November 17: Dollar Dress Down Day
  • Monday-Friday, November 20-24: Thanksgiving Break – No School
  • Saturday, December 2: Reindeer Run and Breakfast with the Grinch (see below for registration information)
  • Friday, December 15: Happy Holidays Party
  • December 18-January 1: Winter Break – No School

Please remember that students should be reading for 20 minutes every night at home! (Even better if they read aloud with a grown up.)

Math tutoring this week will be held Monday and Wednesday after school until 3:40 pm. For additional practice at home, please consider having your student practice their multiplication facts on Reflex and work towards mastery on the standard-specific weekly IXL lessons posted to our Google classroom under “math.”

This week in class we will be reviewing everything we have learned so far this year in math, including all decimal operations, powers of 10, and long division and multi-digit multiplication using the standard algorithm. We will also be taking our first Rise Benchmark test. This test is formative in nature and is in preparation for the summative testing we will complete at the end of the school year. In science, we are learning about properties of matter. In ELA, we will be practicing summarizing and determining the theme of a text while asking what we can learn from different cultures. Please let me know if you have any questions about the benchmark testing or any other class happenings.

Benchmark testing

Hello Families,This is to notify you that we will be participating in RISE benchmark testing in the coming weeks. These tests are formative in nature, meaning they will let me know how your student is comprehending everything we are working on, identify any potential learning gaps, as well as familiarize them with the RISE testing format. They are not as intensive as the end of the year RISE testing. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thank you for your support,

Mrs. Robinson

Halloween 2023

What an amazing day! I love spending my days with my amazing 5th graders, but getting to spend a holiday with them just watching them laugh and have fun is one of my favorite parts of my year.

Oct 23-Oct 27

5th-grade families,

Happy Parent-Teacher conference week!! Conferences are on Wednesday and Thursday from 1:30-8pm, please note these are also early out days for students. Please make sure you have reserved a time, I will be unable to see you if you pop in without making an appointment prior. I look forward to meeting you to discuss your amazing 5th grader! The Halloween parade will be on 31 Oct, beginning at 9:00 a.m. The route is in the email sent by the administration last week. Make sure you and your child are also aware of the costume guidelines below:

Costumes should be modest and without blood or gore. Students are welcome to paint their faces and wear Halloween masks, but masks will only be worn when directed to do so by the classroom teacher (e.g. during the parade, when a class picture is taken, etc). No one should enter the school wearing a mask. Weapons and anything that depicts violence are not allowed on school property (knives, guns, swords, spears, etc.). If you have questions about costume accessories, please contact us. Just to reiterate, no blood or gore, either depicted on the costume or in makeup, is allowed.

The last thing I want to have to do on a fun Halloween day is to have a student have to call home, or make changes to their costumes. I do ask for your support with this.

Our class Halloween party will begin just after morning recess at 10:30 with games and activities until 11:30 and cartoons and snacks from 11:30-12:20. At 12:20 the students will go to recess and lunch and early out at 1:10pm. Please let me know if you have any questions. Also if you would like to volunteer during that time please let me know that as well.

There is a teacher work day (no school for students) on 1 November.

Our plans for ELA and math are attached below, as always please let me know if you have any questions at all.

Thank you, Mrs. Robinson

*There will not be tutoring this week, it will resume next week on 30 Oct.

Oct 2-9

5th-grade families,

It’s hard to believe we are into October already and Fall break is next week (11-13 October)! Please make sure to send your child prepared for those colder mornings. We are also having Parent-teacher conferences 25-26 October, I will be sending sign-up sheets this week, so please grab a slot that works best for you. I’m thrilled to be able to spend that time talking with you about your amazing student.

In math this week, we are rounding with decimals and ELA we are continuing our unit and answering the question “What do good problem solvers do?”. It’s going to be another great week!

Thank you,

Mrs. Robinson
