April 24-28

Families,

It’s hard to believe it’s the last week of April!

We only have one week left to review and prepare for next week’s RISE testing (1 May). Please check with your student to make sure they still have a good working pair of headphones, they need them for review and testing.

Thank you so much for your continued support and do not hesitate to reach out if you have any concerns!

April 17-21

Families,

Welcome to another week!

Spring pictures are Tuesday (April 18), please make sure you have signed the Google form Ms. Stephanie sent out last week if your student is getting their picture taken. A copy is at the bottom of this message.

We are swinging into review and preparing these amazing kids for end-of-year testing! If possible, please make sure to keep absences and early check-outs to a minimum. I want to make sure they get every possible chance to review with the class before testing starts.

Also please check with your student to make sure they still have a good working pair of headphones, they need them for review and testing.

Our class has finished the book “Wonder” and this Friday (April 21) we will watch the movie. This will allow us to work on comparing and contrasting parts of the book with parts of the movie. The movie is rated PG so this does require your signature on the permission slip below. I will have popcorn for students and am allowing the students to bring a snack and a drink from home if they would like.  (no caffeinated drinks)

No offensive language or logos. No footwear with an open toe or open heel.) Please use this FORM to declare whether or not you would like your student to have their picture taken and to order photos. Only those who fill out the form will have a photo taken. Please note that there will not be a retake day for these photos.

Free Dress Down Day: In conjunction with Spring Picture Day, we will have a FREE dress down day for all students on Tuesday, April 18.

April 10-14

5th-grade families,

I hope you had an amazing Spring Break! I will admit I wasn’t feeling the “Spring” part when the break started but the weather certainly turned itself around by the end of the week. I certainly have missed my 5th-grade family and am looking forward to catching up and hearing how everyone’s time off was. It’s hard to believe we are down to our last few weeks of school, they are however some of our busiest weeks of the year! If you are aware that your child is going to be missing time over these next few weeks please let me know as soon as you can.

This week we are finishing our last math lesson and introducing the students to the world of Geometry by learning about the relationships among categories of two-dimensional figures as well as making diagrams to classify those two-dimensional figures. After this week we will be reviewing what we have learned this year in preparation for end-of-the-year testing 🙂! In ELA, we are continuing Unit 5 and looking at how scientific knowledge can change over time. Thank you so much for your continued support and do not hesitate to reach out if you have any concerns!

March 20-24

5th-grade families,

Welcome to the 4th Quarter!

It’s so hard to believe just how fast this year has gone! This Tuesday (March 21) students are encouraged to wear mismatched socks to celebrate World Down Syndrome Day. Also, this Friday is the 5th-grade maturation in the Q1 cafeteria. Girls will meet from 8:40-9:40 am and boys will meet from 9:45-10:40 am. Parents are welcome and encouraged to please attend! If you still need to, please sign and return the permission slip as soon as possible.

This week in math, we will learn about analyzing patterns and relationships as well as learning ways to describe how two number patterns are related. In ELA, we are starting our final unit and considering the question, “How do shared experiences help people to adapt to change?”.

Feb 27- Mar 3

5th-grade families,

On Tuesday, March 7th, we are going on a field trip to the Natural History Museum of Utah. Please sign the permission slip as soon as possible! If you would like to volunteer as a chaperone, please also indicate that on the form and you will be notified if you are a lucky winner. We are excited about this opportunity!

Next Friday, March 3rd, there is a Daddy-Daughter Dance being held at the school. A Mother-Son Dance will follow on Friday, March 10th. The flyers and more details for these fun events are posted below!

Next Friday is also the deadline for Student Council applications. I have extra paper packets if anyone needs them. If your student is interested, they will need to also complete the Google form application in our Google classroom in addition to the paper packet. I’m cheering for them!

Also next Friday, in celebration of Dr. Suess’s birthday, students are invited to either dress as a Dr. Suess character or wear a Dr. Suess-themed shirt.

Finally, please make sure your student has returned their maturation permission slip.  This instruction will be held on March 24th in the lunchroom, from 8:40-9:40 am for girls and 9:45-10:45 am for boys. We would love for you to please attend with your child wherever possible.

Next week we will be studying (and hopefully writing some of our own) poetry while asking the question, “How do you express that something is important to you?” We will also be learning about converting measurements in math. In science, we are continuing our study of Earth’s systems and engineering solutions to lessen the impact of natural disasters.

Please feel free to contact me with any and all concerns.

Thank you,
Mrs. Robinson
