Dear Families,
Your child is excited to learn more about an inspirational person for our upcoming Biography Adventure this week! They will research this person, complete a report, prepare a one-minute speech, and dress up as their chosen figure for our Wax Museum.
Key Dates:
Monday, May 19th: Biography report completed and turned in at school.
Tuesday, May 20th: Speech written in class; please help your child practice their one-minute speech at home.
Wednesday, May 21st: Costumes completed at home and brought to school on Thursday. Costumes should be simple—no need to buy anything new—just get creative with what you have! Students will wear their school uniform all day except during the Wax Museum. They are also welcome to wear their regular school uniform if they would rather not dress up.
Thursday, May 22nd: Wax Museum morning! Students will wear their costumes and share their speeches with classmates.
Thank you for supporting your child in this fun and meaningful project.
Enjoy the Biography Adventure!

Permission Slip, Details, and Chaperone Info
Hello Families,
We would love to have a special 5th Grade End of Year Field Trip to the Ogden Junction. So far we have raised $335 of our $560 class goal. Thank you for your generosity if you have already made a donation! Our overall grade level goal is $2,120 total, so we still need your help to make this happen! We are asking for a minimum contribution of $20 per student. Donations can be made in the office or with the following link: https://secureinstantpayments.com/sip/cart/event.php?EID=1468.
We are trying to raise the money for this incredible opportunity by next Friday, May 2nd. We have a tentative date scheduled for Tuesday, May 27th, the day after Memorial Day, during the last week of school. If we are unable to meet our fundraising goal, please rest assured that any donations will be used towards another engaging opportunity for our 5th graders!
Thank you,
Mrs. Shaw
Hello Team,
It’s hard to believe, but we’re on the final countdown! We have less than 30 days of school left and these awesome kids will be 6th graders. For the next few weeks we will be reviewing everything we have learned so far this year! If students could use extra practice with a concept or do not complete their review work during class it will come home with them as homework. This will be in paper form, but there are also accompanying IXL lessons that are assigned and can be done if your student prefers digital work. Please have your student return this work as soon as possible (within 1-2 school days).
Our Acadience Reading (DIBELS) test will be held Monday, April 28th. We will also begin iReady Diagnostic testing for Reading and Math on Monday. Our RISE testing schedule will be as follows, with an 8:45-10 am session and a 1:15-2:25 pm session each day:
Again, please make every effort to ensure your students have a good breakfast, are well rested, and are at school for both review and testing! Please check with your student to make sure they have a functioning, reliable set of headphones in class. If you are aware that your child is going to be missing learning time in the next few weeks, please let me know as soon as possible so that make-up resources can be prepared ahead of time.
Signing this permission slip will let me know that you are aware of the schedule and proceedings of RISE Testing and that you are giving your child permission to consume the food items listed as part of End of Year instructional activities. Students may also bring one snack from home for themselves (they may not share with their friends) each day during RISE Testing if desired. Finally, the permission slip also contains a waiver for other End of Year activities for which more details will be sent.
Thank you always for your support!

Hello 5th Grade Families,
I hope you had an amazing Spring Break! It’s hard to believe we are down to our last few weeks of school! They are some of our busiest weeks of the year. We are going to be putting our hard work to the test and practicing our growth mindset! Challenge is an adventure!
Please remember that the 5th grade maturation program is this Friday, April 11th. Please make every effort possible to attend this program with your child. Your attendance is not required, but is highly encouraged. Girls’ instruction will begin at 8:35 am and boys’ will be at 9:25 am.
This week and next week in ELA, we are going to be learning about how different groups can contribute to a cause, studying heroic examples from World War II. In math, we will be learning all about evaluating, writing, and interpreting expressions and the order of operations, followed by the classification of two-dimensional figures. Please feel free to have students use IXL at home for extra practice with any 5th grade standard. We are on the countdown to testing, so it all adds up! Please also encourage those mighty minutes of reading every night! They do make a difference!
Acadience (DIBELS) and iReady Diagnostic testing will be the week of April 28th – May 2nd. RISE testing will be Wednesday, May 7th – Friday, May 16th. We will have two testing sessions each day. Please make every effort to ensure your students have a good breakfast, are well rested, and are at school for review and testing! Please check with your student to make sure they have a functioning, reliable set of headphones in class. If you are aware that your child is going to be missing learning time in the next few weeks, please let me know as soon as possible so that make-up resources can be prepared ahead of time.
Thank you so much for your continued support and please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any concerns,
Mrs. Shaw
