Reading Passages (optional, but highly encouraged!!):Stories go home each Friday. Encourage your child to read them to you (3 times), sign it, and send it back with them. They get class money for this!

**End of Year testing is the 1st and 2nd week of May (a little over a month away). Please read with your child. Make it enjoyable and fun. 20 minutes a day is a great goal.  Make sure they are reading out loud!! Your child should be bringing home decodable stories each Friday in their black folders. These stories are great to read again and again. The words will become automatic, so when your child sees them in another text, they won’t have to stop and sound them out. It is so important to read every day and ask fact finding questions from the story to develop your student’s comprehension; this is key to meeting the end of the year benchmark goals for 2nd grade.

Star Students: ~ Mar. 24: William ~ Apr. 7: Liam ~

Reading in Class: We are reading realistic fiction and learning how to identify characters in a story. In phonics we are learning the /aw/ sound and how it’s spelled in different ways (a, au, al, aw, augh, ough). See the paper below.

Math in Class: We will be learning how to use a number line to add and subtract lengths of objects. This can be very hard for 2nd graders to understand. Please see the family letter below and consider doing the activity with your child.
