Reading in Class: How do friends depend on each other?

Dress Down / Short Day

Considering we do not have school on Friday, tomorrow will be our first Dollar Dress Down Day. If your student would like to participate, and has not prepaid, please send them with a dollar. Tomorrow is also a short day. School will release at 1:10 (elementary) and 1:20 (junior high).

STRATEGY: We are talking about visualizing and how to describe the beginning, middle, and end of a story.

Hello soon to be 2nd graders! I hope you all are having an awesome summer! I am excited to meet you in August! Here is some information that might be helpful until then.

Back to School Night will be held on Monday, August 14thfrom 6-8 pm. Presentations will be given every 30 minutes starting at 6:00 pm, with the final session beginning at 7:30 pm. Our classroom is room 118.

  4. Fill out the   Yearly Food Permission Slip

Additionally, students will need to bring the following items on the first day of school:

  • Headphones or earbuds–labeled with the student’s name. Parents will be responsible to replace broken or damaged headphones/earbuds throughout the year. We use headphones multiple times throughout the day in the classroom. Please try to find the highest-quality headphones possible. 
  • A backpack (standard-sized). Please do not purchase the smaller-sized backpacks, as your student will be frustrated at not being able to fit books and papers neatly inside.
  • Water bottle–Student may bring a small, closable water bottle with their name on it. Water Only! Water bottles help so much, because the student doesn’t have to leave the classroom just to get a drink.

The $35 class supply donation will provide each student with the following supplies that will be used daily. 

  • Fabric Pencil pouch
  • 12 sharpened pencils *the Ticonderoga pencils are best
  • 2 large pink erasers and pencil top erasers
  • 6 black ink fine tip Expo markers
  • 1 magic eraser
  • 3 poly folders with pockets and prongs (different colors)
  • 1-wide ruled notebook
  • 1-writing journal
  • 1-3 ring binder
  • 4-6 glue sticks
  • 1 pair scissors (kids safety scissors)
  • 1 box of 24 Crayola crayons-washable
  • 1 box Crayola colored pencils
  • 3 red ball point pens
  • 2 yellow highlighters
  • For the classroom: tissues, zipLoc bags (sandwich, quart, and gallon size), hand sanitizer, clorox wipes, paper towels, and band-aids.

If you would rather purchase these items yourself, please send me an email prior to school beginning and I can give you specific colors for the folders and notebook.

Please note, these are the only supplies allowed. I do not allow other items to be in their desks, especially personal pencil sharpeners. Anything not on this list will be sent home.

Additional donations for field trips and class parties may be requested as their respective dates approach.

Notice: The items on this list will be used during the regular school day. They may be brought from home on a voluntary basis, otherwise, they will be furnished by the school.

Field Trip Wednesday -May 10

Please have your student wear their RED uniform shirts with their uniform pants/shorts. Students can also wear a hat while at the zoo. Please be on time. The buses will promptly pull out from the school at 8:45am sharp, no chaperones are allowed to ride on the bus.
Lunch: Please remember to send a completely disposable lunch if you are sending one from home.

  • Spelling Pattern: c+ le syllables

Math in Class: -We will be learning about line plots. Students should be able to read them and create them on their final test this Friday (4/21).

Reading Passages (optional, but highly encouraged!!) 

**We will be making a big push for these next 2 weeks. Please watch for some special passages to come home each Monday. As part of their 20 minutes of reading each night, Students should read these passages and answer a section on the back.
