Due to an unforeseen system glitch at the zoo, our scheduled field trip for May has been rescheduled for Tuesday, April 23^rd by the zoo.  

We know this does not give us a lot of time for chaperones to get work off.  We appreciate all of your support and would love to have any of you chaperone that can. 

   We are going to the zoo on Tuesday, April 23, 2024. We will be leaving the school on buses at 8:45 and returning at 2:15. School lunches are provided for school lunch daily cost, please mark if you would like one for your child. If you choose to send your child with a home lunch, please make sure it is completely disposable, including the bag, and labeled with their name.

  Due to high bus costs, we are asking for a $5 donations from each student. If you are able, please pay at the front office.   

Please have your students wear their red uniform shirts with their uniform pants/shorts on **TUESDAY** for our Hogle Zoo field trip.

Volunteer info:
    Unfortunately, we learned today that all volunteers due to bus space will need to drive separately and meet us at the zoo. Volunteers will need to pay for your own entry of $21.95. We do get 5 adult tickets per class. I will let you know if you are one of the five in a later email.  Otherwise, please plan to pay for your entry at the Zoo before we arrive. Volunteers must be prepared to stay with their group at all times, bring a backpack to hold lunches, and bring your own personal lunch. We ask that you do not bring siblings, so your attention is on our students. You will need to drive yourself and meet at the zoo at 9:30am with a ticket purchased. We will plan to leave the zoo at 1:15pm. At that point, volunteers are welcome to check out their children with me at the bus and go home.

I hope you all had a wonderful Spring Break. It’s crazy to think that we only have 7 weeks left of school. We will be giving that last push before our testing window, which will be May 6-10. Hopefully your child showed you the reading packet that was sent home the Friday before break. It is so important that your child is reading every day so they can reach their personal pathway goals. I know a lot of my students like to read in their head, but please make sure they are reading at least 5 minutes out loud. After those 5 minutes, ask them what they just read. Retell is a big part of the reading test, that’s why I sent some short passages home to practice with. I appreciate all the help you give your student at home.

Reading in Class: We are learning how to read a script and be a character in a play. PHONICS: We are reviewing long and short vowel spelling patterns. We will also be studying compound words.

Math in Class: This week we will be learning about line plots. We will learn how to read them and create them. Please see the family letter below and consider doing the activity with your child at home.

Reading Passages (optional, but highly encouraged!!) :

**Please read with your child. Your child should be reading 20 minutes a day, at least 5 times a week. Consider using the short stories that were sent home in the reading packet to read and reread. As your child reads each night, they can color in the picture. The April / May coloring page can be turned in the week of May 13, and they will receive class money to spend at our final Class store on May 17.

Parents,

We have 45 school days left of school. Our testing window for acadience math and reading will be May 13 – 17, which means we really only have 35 learning days before that. It is so important that your child is reading every day so they can reach their personal pathway goals. I know a lot of my students like to read in their head, but please make sure they are reading at least 5 minutes out loud. After those 5 minutes, ask them what they just read. Retell is a big part of the reading test. Students need to be able to tell you as much as they can about what they read in 1 minute. Please do not have your child write who the cards are to, just who they are from. We have 26 students in our class. Students can decorate a Valentine box, or something similar, to bring in on that day. The opening on the box should be about a 3×5 or 4×6 size. Please do not bring it any sooner than the 14th. I will have a bag to give to students who do not bring a box from home. Students are able to hand out small, prepackaged treats. These treats will be sent home with students and are not to be eaten in class. Students will have to have a permission form filled out by parents to receive treats from their classmates. **Please keep in mind while buying treats, we have a student with peanut allergies. PERMISSION FOR TREATS

Math in Class: We will be taking our money test on Monday, and then we start learning about time. Students need to know how to read an analog clock and show it digitally. Please see the family letter below and consider doing the activity with your child at home.
