Welcome Back!!!!

FIELDTRIP ALERT!!!!!!  DUE TO CIRCUMSTANCES BEYOND OUR CONTROL (TRANSPORTATION) WE HAVE HAD TO CHANGE THE FIELDTRIP TO APRIL 21SST, NOT APRIL 22ND!  MORE INFORMATION TO COME!

I know that getting up on Monday is going to be hard, but we can all do it!  We have so much to do and learn before we’re ready to take our end of year tests.   I also have a couple of new web sites for us to try.

Pirates of Penzance
Pirates

Quest Academy Drama is proud to present Pirates of Penzance.  It will be performed on April 8th and April 9th at 7:00 (Doors open at 6:30)  Tickets are available on line or inside Q1 before and after school.  You may buy tickets from now until April 7th for the pre-sale price of $5 or $20 for a family of 5!  Tickets are also available right before the performance at Ogden High School for $6 or $24 for a family of 5.
*POQA will deliver the tickets to your student at school after tickets are purchased.

New Web Sites
We have a 2 week trial of Zeal, an online live tutoring site, that monitors your child’s work and jumps in to help them when they are struggling.  We will be using it in class, but would love to have your child try it at home and then give me feedback.

The second website is a great website that you sign up for at home, and then send me your child’s user name.  It enrolls them in a fun, interactive science and reading site that helps with vocabulary and comprehension.  Please sign your child up and fill our the form below so I can add them to my camp.  This site is available all summer long and will hopefully help keep your student reading.  They are also welcome to vote and enter questions they would like answered.
Please use this link and register as a camper:

Week Before Break

Pirates
We would love to have you and your family join us for The Pirates of Penzance Junior on April 8th and 9th!

Things are moving way to fast for my liking.  Our 3rd Graders are going to be 4th Graders before I’m ready.  We still have a lot to accomplish and will need all the student’s doing their best.

This quarter we will be fine tuning our writing skills, solidifying our reading skills and continuing to learn more math concepts while reviewing the ones we have already learned.  We will also be starting a fun play that we’ll perform in May.

This week we have Conferences on Thursday.  I would love to meet with as many parents as possible.  Please e-mail me if you would like to come visit about the progress of your student.  I currently have appointments available between 3:30 to 5:30.  Please click here to access the schedule and sign up:

Parent Teach Conferences

Friday is a $1 dress down day, and a short day.

In case you missed the announcement, we are able to offer the premium version of Prodigygame.org for $12.00 a year.  All those who would like to participate need to fill out the form that was sent home with your child and turn it in at the office with the $12.00 fee.

ATTENTION!!!!!  Third Grade won the Box Top and Campbell Soup Collection.  We are donating the playground equipment to another grade and we’re keeping the FREE DRESS DOWN DAY!  Please watch for the dress down date.  We will announce it to the kids and either send home a note or post it on the blog.  It will most likely be after Spring Break.

Campbell Soup is discontinuing their Labels for Education Program (So very sad about this!)  They will accept labels for the rest of the school year.  With this in mind, if you have cases of soup and would love for the school to benefit from their labels, feel free to use an exacto knife, or just the tip of your scissors, and cut off  the part of the label that has the barcode on it.

HOMEWORK
Reading:  Please continue to read 20 minutes a night and record it on the recording sheet.  Research shows that recreational reading is very important and helps foster comprehension in content areas. Each night of reading is worth 20 points.

Math:  Please choose 3 math activities a week to complete.  Each night is worth 10 points.

Repost for the Week of March 14th

This is going to be a nice normal week, other than the face that there is no school on Friday for the kids.  The teachers will be be her learning new information.   I’m excited, aren’t you?  With this in mind, this will be a short post. 🙂

Survivor will start Monday.  We will have 2 people present at a time.  They will then be voted on by the class as to why they want the producer or consumer to stay on the island.    Even if they have been voted off, they still have a vote on every other  presentation.  I hope this is a great experience for all involved.  The kids are excited and so am I!

Our STEM Challenge this month is about oil spills and how they affect the living and nonliving environments.  We will be looking for ways that oil spills will be able to be cleaned up.

Homework
Reading:  Please read 20 minutes every night.  I can’t even express how important this is.  Studies prove that children who read score higher on end of level as well as standardized tests. Reading also helps to increase vocabularies, imaginations, and paychecks in the future.  I can see all sorts of benefits when it comes to reading every night.

Math:  There are so many possibilities for math homework.  I could assign worksheets, but there are beneficial activities that do the exact same thing as worksheets and the students tend to enjoy them more.  I have gone in and programed these sites to review what we have learned in class, if your child does extra, and it becomes too difficult, please feel free to e-mail me so I can reset your child’s activities.

Spelling:
No Spelling sorts this week due to it being a short week.  We will be working as a whole group on breaking words into parts and looking for the base word.

Gala, Baskets and Presentations

Please read the following information concerning the upcoming Gala and Basket Event:
This year Quest wanted to provide our students with additional learning opportunities by providing clubs and STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) activities. We unfortunately did not have unlimited funds and were limited with the number of students who could participate.  In the future, we would like to offer additional club opportunities for everyone to enjoy.  POQA has taken on the task of raising money and has chosen not to sell cookie dough or gift wrap but to provide an opportunity to showcase what our students have done at a dinner event and silent auction.

Basket Fundraiser (in support of STEM activities for our students)
•Each grade has provided a theme basket with gifts, treats, gift cards, etc. Baskets can be viewed in the Q1 foyer.
•Anyone can purchase ticket(s)
Ticket prices
$1=1 ticket & a sticker
$5=6 tickets & a pencil
$10=15 tickets & a ball

•Tickets can then be placed in the bucket that coordinates with the basket of their choice•The evening of the Gala, a ticket from each basket will be drawn and the basket will be awarded to the ticket holder (need not be present to win).

Gala tickets and basket tickets are on sale again this week, before and after school, in the foyer of Q1.  If you are unable to purchase tickets at that time, please email lblakely@questac.org with your name and phone number and we will contact you to make arrangements.

Our rainforest presentations are coming along great.  We should be ready to start our Survivor game some time this week.  Please watch for updates.  You can check out all of the producers and consumers under the Survivor tab at the top of this page.  As the students are voted off the island, they will be filled in with red.  You can watch the fun in this way.

Field Trip, Parent Teacher Conferences, Short Day and , Baskets and Gala

This is a busy week so here are a few dates to remember:

Wednesday, February 24th Planetarium Field Trip  Please don’t be late to the FrontRunner Station. We will not be able to wait for those who are late.  Please remember that the students and chaperones will NOT be purchasing items from the Gift Store or the Concession Stand at the Planetarium.  Thanks for understanding.

Thursday, February 25th Parent Teacher Conferences    If you would like to meet with me about the progress of your student, please email me at sgoldsberry@questac.org and we will set up a time.  We will be here until 5:30.  I would love to meet with you.

Friday, February 26th Dollar Dress Down Day and Short Day   We will be out of school at 1:00.  Please remember that if your child chooses to dress down, they need to pay $1.00.  This is a great fund raiser and the money always goes towards something for the students.

If you have not bought your tickets for the Quest Gala, please do so.  This is going to be a great evening to see some of the amazing things our students are creating, and participating in.  There will also be a Basket Auction.  Tickets are available in the entrance of Q1 before and after school.

Baskets
We are still collecting items to include in our College/Jazz Sports Basket.  We appreciate all donations!

Seesaw
If you have not subscribed to Seesaw, you are missing out on the amazing things that your student is doing.  They post at least one or two times a week.  Their posts are not perfect, although I do encourage them to read, have a friend read, and edit before and even after posting.  If you see something your child can improve on, feel free to chat with them about it.  They can edit items at school and at home.
