I Finished Hugo – and Book Order Update

Hey Guys and Gals, I used my holiday time to get some reading done and one of the books that has been sitting on my nightstand with only a few pages to go is The Invention of Hugo Cabret. Yes, I know that the movie came out this weekend but I was determined to finish the book before I saw the movie! Remember when we talked about books turned into movies and how the book is always better??? Well – I loved the book so the movie will have to be AMAZING if it wants to beat the book!!!       Now I am ready to start the author’s next book titled Wonderstruck! I Love to READ! What have you been reading over the break? Leave us a comment so we can learn bout all the reading that is going on in the 6th grade!       Both of these great books are on out book orders this month! The flyers will be going home on Tuesday and all orders are due the next Monday  – Dec. 5th so that our books will be delivered to us before the holiday break! If you do not have the current flyers at home or just want to use the Scholastic website instead just remember to register and use our class code – GQM6F – to access all of the different clubs. Happy Reading – and I hope you all had a fantastic Thanksgiving Break!

Mythology Cards are looking good………

As a part of our study of Traditional Literature our classes have been learning a little about Mythology and all of those crazy Gods and Goddesses. Remember to work on completing your Mythology Cards and do your very best work. We will be adding these cards to our unit project. This week we will be learning more about some of the other forms of Traditional Literature such as Fables, Legends, Folktales and Tall Tales. Tall Tales have long been a staple of American folk literature, often featuring stories of legendary figures such as Johnny Appleseed, Pecos Bill, Daniel Boone, Paul Bunyan, Davy Crockett, and John Henry. These stories, told as if they are factual, all have unbelievable elements. While some are exaggerations of actual events or persons, many are fictional tales. Tall Tale Checklist: •The story has many exaggerations in it. •The main character has a problem to solve. •The main character is bigger than life and has super-human abilities. •The plot of the story is funny and impossible. •In the end, the main character solves a problem, overcomes an obstacle and/or defeats a “bad guy.” •The story includes lots of action.

This week try to add a few Tall Tales

to your reading time.
