Zoo Field Trip Info.

Dear Parents,

Our Hogle Zoo Field Trip is nearly here, TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 12th.  Mrs. Bischoff and Mrs. Tiechert will be meeting us there.  If any of you have a zoo pass, please let us know as the zoo will not allow them in without paying.
Everyone will need to sign the permission slip which I will get on the blog today!

Here are a few things to know before we go:
1-  We appreciate those who have already made their field trip donation.  If you haven’t please pay your $15.00 donation to the Q1 office to cover the transportation costs of our scheduled field trips this year.  We greatly appreciate anything that you can donate for our field trips.  Thank you for your generosity!  The bus cost for transportation is extremely expensive and these funds are needed to cover the cost so that we don’t have to cancel the field trip.

2- Wear school uniform with RED shirt, sunscreen and good walking shoes! Please dress for the weather.

3- Bring a cold sack lunch from home in a disposable bag with your child’s name.  Everything must be completely disposable. There will be no microwaves available.

4- Be on time. Arrive at school by 8:30am.  Bus departs at 8:45am.  We will leave the zoo around 1:25pm, returning to Quest around 2:00 – 2:30pm.

5- Parent chaperones: Please bring a backpack or bag to carry the lunches of the students in your group.  And a lunch for yourself.  Please arrive and meet in our room at 8:15am to go over last minute instructions and get a copy of the Zoo Groups.  If you are bringing siblings, it is necessary for you to drive your own vehicle.  Please be prepared to pay for yourself and any extra children you bring.  For those driving, plan on meeting us at the zoo at 9:30-9:45am.  The zoo address is 2600 E. Sunnyside Avenue, Salt Lake, UT, 84108.

Current Volunteers: Rachel McClure, Tina Hansen, Jeremy Fong, Tandy Price, Marty Booth (meeting there), Kellie Brixey… did I miss anyone? And yes… I can use more!

Parent Volunteers: We are ALWAYS looking for more volunteers so don’t be shy. You may join your child’s group to help with the group management. Chaperones:  If your cell phone number is not correct please email Ms. Wagster to update it on the field trip form in case we need to reach you and your group.

Parent chaperones, thank you so very much for being willing to take care of a group of our kiddos, we truly appreciate you!  Please arrive at the school to gather your groups lunches before heading down to meet us at the zoo.  We already have our parent bus spots filled for our class and they have been notified.  If more spots open up, we will reach out to chaperones.

There are school sack lunches available for field trips. School sack lunches contain an Uncrustable sandwich, applesauce or apple, carrots and shelf-stable chocolate or white milk. Orders MUST be submitted by Thursday, September 7th at 12 . If you would like to order a sack lunch for our Hogle Zoo field trip, please copy and paste the link below and fill out the Google Form for your child, so that we can submit it to the lunch staff.

Thank you so very much for making your field trip donations and being willing to work with us as a team for your students ongoing success. We truly love each of your children and are so very blessed to have the opportunity to facilitate them in their learning.

Sept. 5

I hope everyone enjoyed a long weekend!! It was so nice to get some extra sleep!

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY: We could use a couple parents to come to the STEM LAB on Thursday after lunch (11:30) to help the kids log on more quickly. I don’t think this will take that long… but it’s a great excuse to eat lunch with your child that day!! Just email or text me if you can help. THIS HAS BEEN POSTPONED FOR A COUPLE WEEKS… I WILL NEED SOME PARENTS THEN.

We are continuing to get into the daily routine.  We are practicing lining up the right way EVERY time and listening to directions. This will help us as we practice some centers and how to be independent during this time.

We have started using the iPads and Chrome books… and the kids are loving it! They were so awesome as we went to our first Assembly and learned about Internet safety. In math, we are learning about the different ways we can make numbers. This is so important as this is the foundation for so many other things. Please check their work and watch for papers they need to “practice.” Our last test on writing addition sentences was great and everyone showed proficiency or mastery! So exciting to see kids loving math! The kids also did DIBEL testing and I will be able to get everyone leveled soon. I adore having the kids read to me!! Let me know in the “concerns” section on the homework if the last couple fluency passages have been too easy… I will give out some harder ones!!

Official Zoo Field trip news: It is scheduled for Tues., September 12. I have had several parents volunteer. I’ll let you know if I need more. I do know that kids will need SACK lunches (which can be bought from the cafeteria) because it is an all day trip. I will have more details as soon as I can talk with the other teachers and get the info.

Thanks for letting me teach your kids… they are wonderful!!

Week of August 28th

Hi everyone! It’s going to take me a while to get used to blogging every Sunday. I will do my best to get this habit ingrained!! This week we are starting PE on Monday and Wednesday. We are practicing some centers and there is an assessment in Math on number sentences. I will also be assessing all the Smart Start high frequency words which are listed in your homework packet!! The kids got to work on the iPads a bit this last week and are working hard on handwriting.

Please go through the work that is sent home. I do make comments if needed and write “practice” if it’s something they need more time on. And watch for those big smiley faces which show work well done! We are also trying to follow procedures and not start talking… I began taking points off last week. If you notice something consistent, please address it with your child. I hate taking points… but will if needed. On the other hand, several earned their first Dojo reward this last week! Congrats!! Have a great week… we are going to be working hard and having fun!!

Week of Aug. 21

We had a wonderful first week! I’m so excited for this year! I think we finally got pick up perfected and everyone is finding their child where they should be. Please have your student say good bye to me… I am still “losing” quite a few students as we round the corner coming out of the east doors. I just want to know they are with you!!

A few wrinkles from this last week:    (Really we did pretty good for a first week! LOL)
School lunch– Either pay online or have your child take their money to the office on their way outside in the morning. I had 3 headed to recess with $ in their pockets… a little risky!
Remind students that the pizza line is always long and there may not be time to play afterwards. Overall, our kids did great… even ate their main courses pretty well!! Before dessert… hehe! That’s like a miracle for a 6 year old!

This week:

We will be watching the eclipse during our recess. The school has provided glasses for us!!

Pictures are Monday!! Uniforms required… I sent out the link in an email Friday! You can get all the info. if you go there.

Remember that I will need Friday’s pizza count on Wednesday.

We are on a regular schedule… full days except Friday!! Expect some tired kiddos!
(And teachers!)

Please sign up for Class Dojo if you haven’t already. I will be be using it this week and starting to send messages out using it instead of email.

Have a great week!!!
