Utah County Report

Parents,

We are working hard to be ready for our Utah Program Thursday, February 6. As part of our Utah History Curriculum, each child will research a county in Utah. Your child has selected a Utah county to research and create a collage of information for their county. They have started their research at school but will need assistance for their project. At home, please find pictures that represent their county to show in collage form. We will send posters home Monday, January 27. Be creative-there is not one right way to create their poster. Think drawings, printing, stencil, color and fun!  Please return finished by Monday, February 3, as we will be compiling all of our counties to create a collage of the state of Utah! Thank you for your support! We are looking forward to sharing all the things we have learned about Utah!

If you have not signed up for a time for PTC please see previous post to sign up.

Valentine’s Day

The stores have Valentine’s cards for sale, if you are ready to buy those now here is some information to know: If you fill out THIS PERMISSION FORM your child can have and pass out candy on this day. Our class has 27 students in it. Have them only sign their card with their name. Do not address the card/prize to specific kids. We will celebrate Valentine’s Day on Feb 14 from 11:20 until lunch. We will be having a card exchange and playing with prizes that were handed out to them. The kids can bring a decorated box/bag on the morning of Feb 14. They will need those totally decorated at home. If you would like to not participate in created a box/bag, I will have a simple bag for them to bring their cards/prized home in. If you have questions, please let me know. Thanks

Just as a heads up, we will be starting to benchmark for the upcoming RISE test. We will be doing a 3-4 a month between now and the RISE test. This allows the kids to be more confident and ready to test at end of year. Thank you for your support in this and reiterating the importance of always doing their best.

RENDEZVOUS
We will hold our annual 4th-grade Rendezvous (a.k.a. the Economics Fair) on Thursday, December 19th, the last week before Christmas Break. More information on previous post.

To be ready for this event, students will need to make 30 products or plan a service to “sell” during the rendezvous (please keep the expense very low. I recommend making each item well under the value of $1. Be creative and use things you already have. Nature if filled with free supplies.) Some examples are shown below. Please no food or Orbeez.

Polar Express Christmas Party

Students who have reached 90% in REFLEX will be invited to come to Polar Express Party. If they don’t, they need to meet individually with me to discuss what they can do to earn polar express party that day.

To celebrate, we are going to be watching the movie for our winter party. The party will be on Friday, December 20th. This movie is rated “G.” Please let me know if you would like your child to participate in another activity that day instead of watching the movie. We will be having hot chocolate, popcorn, and fun!

Students may wear clean pajamas to school that day. They can bring a small pillow, blanket, and stuffed animal to use during the show. Kids can snack on treats they brought from home (it can be healthy or sweet). Remember NO PEANUTS or snacks containing peanuts. They can bring a closable drink too.

NOTE: anything they bring may not be shared with other students Remember we have a short day this day.

PLANNING AHEAD: Besides watching the movie, we will have a gift exchange. Please send your child with a $3-$5 gift to share. They may also regift a gently used item/toy. Please bring the gift wrapped. I will gladly accept any extra gift you can send for children that don’t bring on. I will not need any volunteers for this day. If you would like to participate in the fun, you can always stop by anytime.

Beware LONG Post coming!!!! Lots of info.

UPCOMING EVENTS…
Nov. 22nd – Yearbook Cover Due
Nov. 25th-29th – Thanksgiving Break

Freeport fourth graders hold economic fair | WGME

Rendezvous Permission Form

Upcoming Rendezvous– We will be having our annual fourth-grade Rendezvous (a.k.a. the Economics Fair) on Thursday, Dec 19th. It will be held in the Q1 Gym at 1:45. This is a fun activity for all who come! ALL are welcome including smaller siblings. Guests will receive complimentary “pelts” at the door to spend too.

In the next month, we will be learning about economics and rendezvous as part of our Utah history lessons. This activity will help students gain a better understanding of basic economics as well as how mountain men and early pioneers made and sold products. This activity is part of our social studies curriculum. All students are encouraged to participate and will need to be present on the day of the activity.

To be ready for this event, students will need to make a product or plan a service to “sell” during the rendezvous. Some examples are (but not limited to):

We have had in the past: flower pens, play dough, slime, hand warmers, jewelry, and other simple crafts. You pick what you like to bring BUT no food items will be allowed and no balloon Orbeez. Remember what you have learned about economics, make something that no one else has. That way, you can charge more for the product because you won’t have any competition. HIGH DEMAND = MORE SALES/PROFIT  😉 Your overall profit will reward you with bragging rights. We don’t use any “real” money. We will be using rendezvous “paper pelts.”From now until the rendezvous, students will have the opportunity to earn “animal pelts.” This is our form of money/currency given out by 4th Grade Teachers to be used to buy things at the rendezvous from other students. You will turn in your paper pelts afterward. Whatever you choose to make should be homemade or a kit (Amazon has several so order soon). Don’t stress about this project, you can paint/use markers to color rocks and call it good. Remember***you want to have a product kids want to buy in the end though*** Students should use materials that can be found around the house to make sure their product doesn’t break the bank. Any cost involved in purchasing materials should be minimal. Students will need to make 30 items to sell. Please let the students make this product/service with minimal help from grown-ups.

Rendezvous items are due Monday, Dec. 16th. This will ensure that students are ready to sell on Thursday, and it will give me time to help students price their products and make a poster in class.  AGAIN, the product posters are being made in class.

WHAT WE ARE LEARNING THE WEEK OF NOV. 18th-22nd…

ABOUT ONE MONTH AWAY!!!

Polar Express Party-Winter Party

We have been working very hard to be proficient in multiplication facts! We have a few kids that are still trying to master these skills. Please help them by practicing at home.

Students will need to know their MULTIPLICATION FACTS! Please have your child work on their facts at home whenever you can. If they have reached 90% in their REFLEX account they have already qualified. Any student under that percent will need to prove to me that they have them learned before the party. Daily Practicing on reflex is a great way to get their percentage up very quickly.

To celebrate, we are going to be watching the movie for our winter party. The party will be on Friday, December 20th. This movie is rated “G.” Please let me know if you would like your child to participate in another activity that day instead of watching the movie. We will be having hot chocolate, popcorn, and fun!

Students have voted to wear clean pajamas to school that day. They can bring a small pillow, blanket, and stuffed animal to use during the show. Kids can snack on treats they brought from home (it can be healthy or sweet). They can bring a (closable with a lid) drink too.

NOTE: anything they bring may not be shared with other students

Remember we have a short day this day.

PLANNING AHEAD: Besides watching the movie, we will have a class gift exchange. Please send your child with a $3-$5 gift to share before Fri Dec 20th. They may also regift a gently used item/toy. Please bring the gift wrapped already. I will gladly accept any extra gift you can send for children that doesn’t bring one. I will not need any volunteers for this day. But If you would like to participate in the fun, you can always stop by and visit us for a bit of fun.
