Week of November 15-19

Tuesday: Library books are due! Please make sure your child’s library book is in their backpack. Send take-home folders to school (yellow for AM and green for PM). Please review contents of folder when returned.
Thursday: The school will be providing hearing tests for students. If you do NOT want your child’s hearing tested please notify me before class on Thursday. More information will be sent home on Tuesday in your child’s take-home folder.
Friday: To celebrate Thanksgiving we will be reading a book called Turkey Trouble having a pizza party! The pizza will be provided by the school from Pizza Pie Cafe. Please let me know by email at aapplonie@questac.org if you do NOT want your child to have pizza.

Please make sure you are reading with your student for at least 2o minutes every day. It makes a huge difference! Please use part of that time to keep working on letter names with your kiddos. Now that most students know all their letter names and sounds, we are working on letter naming fluency. The goal is to name 55 random letters (upper or lower) in 1 minute (that’s about 1 letter per second…that’s fast)! Using flashcards is one very effective way to practice!

There will be NO school the week of Thanksgiving(November 22-26). Enjoy the break!!

Here’s a quick overview of new things we will learn this week:

Comprehension strategy: “Visualize”. We will read a fictional story, a fantasy and an informational text to go along with our theme “What places do you go during the week?”

New High Frequency Word: “go”

Phonics:blend and isolate sounds in CVC words. New sound/spelling: Cc

Sound Wall: /u/ as in spoon, /w/ as in window, /j/ as in jump, and /oi/ as in boy.

Vocabulary: routine, neighborhood, local, intelligent, volunteer

Math: Lesson 11 “Make 6, 7, 8, and 9” and continue learning the routine for math pathways. Students have time to work on our math power standards at their own pace during math pathways time.

You are not required to do the activity, it’s just a suggestion to practice at home.
