What we are learning:

We are now in Unit 3 in Language Arts. Below are the power words, oral vocabulary words, letters, and sounds we will be mastering during the next 3 weeks. We are continuing working on syllables, rhyming, identifying the beginning and ending sounds of words, and blending sounds to read words. We have learned most of our sound wall sounds and use our sound wall to help us spell and read words. In math we are learning different ways to make 10 and comparing greater than and less than with numbers and objects. We are starting math pathways which will allow us to work on our math lessons at our own pace. And in science, we are exploring weather patterns and seasons. We are learning how we can be weather watchers as we examine the sky, consider the temperature, and watch for wind and moisture.

Reminders:

TUESDAY: LIBRARY BOOKS MUST BE RETURNED!!! Please make sure your child’s library book is in their backpack. Send take-home folders to school (yellow for AM and green for PM). Please review contents of folder when returned. Your student’s SEP form(student education plan) will be sent home. If you have questions I would love review the information with you during Parent Teacher Conferences or you are welcome to contact me before then.

FRIDAY: We have our Halloween party this Friday, October 29th. Please see my previous blog post for information on the parades and costume guidelines.

HOMEWORK: Quest is a no homework school but you still need to be reading with your child at least 20 minutes every day. I strongly encourage you to use some of that time to practice letter names and sounds. After your student knows all their letters and sounds please focus on writing the letters and mastering the kindergarten high frequency words found in their take-home folder. Mastering those words is essential to improve reading fluency.

PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES: If you have not signed up for a conference yet I sent you an email with the link to sign up! I would love to meet with you to talk about your student. you may also click HERE to view the sign up.

Halloween Parade

Our annual Halloween Parade will take place on Friday, October 29th. Please read and comply with our costume dress code as follows. Costumes should be modest and without blood or gore. Students are welcome to paint their faces and wear Halloween masks; however, those masks will only be worn when directed to do so by the classroom teacher (e.g. during the parade, when a class picture is taken, etc). Weapons and anything that depicts violence are not allowed on school property (knives, guns, swords, spears, etc.). If you have questions about costume accessories, please contact us. Just to reiterate, no blood, either depicted on the costume or in makeup, is allowed.

Morning Class:

Because the parade will start at 9:00am, we ask that students come to school already dressed in their costumes. For those who would like to watch the parade, please plan on bringing camping chairs or blankets, which you can set them up along the outside of either building (see map below – the yellow dots indicate where families can sit). Also, though Q2 students are welcome to dress up, their participation in the parade will be limited to watching the elementary students.

Afternoon Class:

The parade will start shortly after arriving at school at 11:00 am. My guess would be that we will start around 11:10 am, but timing will be determined by how quickly we can get the kids into class and ready to go. For those who would like to watch the parade from outside the building (see map below – the yellow dots indicate where families can watch). We will enter the school through the doors marked by the blue star where the students from the rest of Q1 are invited to watch our parade. After, we will exit through the doors marked by the green star continuing the parade for all afternoon kindergarten family members that choose to stay.

Fall Break is Almost Here!

I know I am excited for Fall Break and I hope you are too! We have school on Monday and Tuesday, no school Wednesday-Friday.

The past week we learned a lot about shapes and how shapes are all around us! We read different books about shapes to work on connecting ideas from different texts. This week we will continue learning more about shapes and go on a virtual field trip around the world to see different shapes!

In math we worked on composing numbers within 5. We know there are many ways to make 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5. We can show how to make numbers within 5 with our fingers and with our math manipulatives.

On Tuesday the fire station will be coming to visit us. Due to COVID restrictions we had to cancel the field trip to the fire station but they are kind enough to help us out and will be coming to us and giving a short presentation.

Due to this week being so short we will NOT be turning in folders this Tuesday.

I will be sending out the Parent Teacher Conference sign up soon so watch for that!

COOKIE DOUGH PICK UP IS TOMORROW, OCTOBER 11TH FROM 2:00-5:00PM
