Sage Writing Test

Next week we will be completing the writing portion of the Sage test on Monday May 1 and Tuesday May 2.

I’ve been so happy with the way most of the students are taking the test seriously and giving it their best efforts!

Titanic Project

Over the past few weeks we have been learning about the Titanic.  Each student has been given a real passenger or crew member to research and write a report about. As a fourth grade we would like to end our unit with a wall-sized diorama of the Titanic.  Each class has been given a section of the ship to create.  Each student has been partnered up to make a replica, the best they can, of a specific room on the ship.   This display will be in the front entryway of the school for others to view.

Tomorrow, April 20, we will begin creating our rooms. The students have already researched and planned how they are going to create their spaces. I have most of the supplies they will need. However, if there is something specific they would like to use such as scrapbook paper, modeling clay, fabric, etc., they may bring those supplies tomorrow. Please note that the tissue boxes we use as the base do not hold a lot of weight. Carpet samples or wooden doll furniture are too heavy for the box to support.

We are excited to share what we have learned!

Donations for Sparks Family

Many of you may know that the Sparks family (Tyten is in our class) suffered a house fire and a total loss of their belongings.  Luckily, all family members and pets are safe and uninjured.   I spoke with Mrs. Sparks and they have received an outpouring of love and support.  What they lack are uniforms for the boys.  They are also in need of backpacks and lunchboxes.  If you might be able to donate some new or gently used items,  they would be most grateful.  Sizes and items are listed below.  I’ve also included a link to a GoFundMe account that was set up in their behalf.  Thank you for helping us make sure these sweet boys are taken care of during their time of displacement.

Sincerely,
Amy Hadley

Crayola Crayon Day

Dear parents,

Friday is Crayola Crayon Day.  I know…there is a day for everything!  If you have old Crayola Crayons that you will more than likely throw out during spring cleaning, will you please send them to school?  We are going to be making a Crayola Art project that requires quite a few green, yellow, blue, black, and white crayons.  They don’t need to be in perfect condition.  You’re welcome to donate only those colors, or send them all and we’ll sort them.  We especially need the green ones.  Thanks so much!

Staker-Parsons Activity

On March 8th, the 4th grade will be having an outreach rocks program with Staker-Parsons. This local business is so generous to come present to our 4th grade students at no cost to us! The students will be learning about how rocks are used in our world and how they are mined out of the ground. They will be digging in chocolate chip cookies during this activity and may eat their cookies when they are done, if given permission on the link below.
