DDD-This Friday

All money raised will be donated to WHOlives!

As a class, we have been reading the book, A Long Walk to Water.  This was a wonderful novel that told a true story about the lack of good water in Africa…and how far they have to travel on foot to find the unclean water that is available.  Finishing this book was a great way to start the week.  We have an assembly today that introduces the Change For Water Challenge we will be participating in this week at Quest.  Please read the attached paper about the challenge.  Thank you so much for helping and supporting this!! :)

Also, the money donated for Dollar Dress Down Day this Friday will be donated to this cause.

Notification from: Quest Academy
On Monday through Friday starting April 15th, Quest Academy will begin a simple week-long activity that teaches COMPASSION, COLLABORATION AND INNOVATION in a very hands-on way. This WHOlives Service Learning program also offers STEM-related principles that apply to real-life problems. You can learn more at: www.WHOlives.org/learning.

WHOlives is a nonprofit 501c-3 organization based in Utah, with a mission to bring water, health and opportunity to children in developing countries that are at great risk, due to scarce and contaminated water.

In an assembly at Quest Academy on Monday, April 15 we will discuss the world water crisis with a short 20-minute audio/visual presentation and introduce the Change for Water Challenge. The Challenge invites students to bring in coins throughout the week to help create a well in Africa.

Thank you for your support of this powerful week of service learning. Students are encouraged to do chores at home or for friends and neighbors to earn coins to bring to school each day. We also encourage students to find one sponsor to donate $5/month for 12 months, giving clean water to 12 children for life. With your help, our school will bring water, health and opportunity to thousands of children in need.

Monday, April 15 we attended an assembly that discussed the world water crisis with a short 20-minute audio/visual presentation and introduce the Change for Water Challenge. The Challenge invites students to bring in coins throughout the week to help create a well in Africa. Families received an email containing more information about this. This week we will be reading the wonderful book below.

Students may also receive a personal copy of the book when they reach their goal of finding one sponsor to bring water to 12 children at $5/month. WHOlives will also be donating other books to your library about the importance of water on the earth.

Our class will begin our morning with our simple empathy worksheet designed to promote discussion on what it means to “walk in another person’s shoes”.

I am excited to see the transformation of our students as they work together to help solve one of the most needless tragedies on the earth.

Thank you for your support of this powerful week of service learning. With your help, your school can bring water, health and opportunity to thousands of children in need. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have.

Museum of Ancient Life-Tuesday, April 30th

We are excited to announce our next field trip! The entire fourth grade will be traveling to Thanksgiving Point to tour the Museum of Ancient Life. The cost for this field trip is $7.00 per student, paid to the front office. Due on or before April 24th. Fill out the permission slip before April 22, let us know if you are coming on the form too. Here is the link.

Our classes will be using the Frontrunner instead of busses for this field trip.  All students will need to meet a the Roy FrontRunner station on 4000 South NO LATER THAN 8:20. There will be NO RIDES provided from the school to the Frontrunner Stations. Do NOT drop them off before 8:00. We will be walking from the station to the museum. It is about a 15-20 minute walk (1 mile). Please wear shoes made for walking. REMEMBER we have to walk back to the station at the end of the day. We will return to the Roy station at 3:10ish. You need to be at the station NO LATER than 3:05. Arrange carpool if necessary. Again, there will be NO RIDES from the station to the school.

All parents are invited. With the nature of this field trip, we are only allowing parents to attend with us and all parents will be responsible for a small group of children. Please make other arrangements for ALL other siblings. Parents/Chaperones please do not shop or buy from the gift shop or food court. It cause problems regarding souvenirs and food allergies etc. Stop into the gift shop on another visit 😉

Our class will have 4 FREE tickets for a parent chaperone to attend (this will include their ride on the FrontRunner). I will hold a drawing to pick these lucky individuals. As a chaperon, you will be assigned 1-3 students to explore with during the day. All other adults will be charged regular venue admission. Adult Admission: $20 Seniors: $15***You will pay your admission when you arrive at the venue NOT at the school office.

We will be riding the FrontRunner to and from the museum. You are welcome to buy a FrontRunner pass and travel with us or drive separately. Please arrive at the museum before 10:00.

NO ELECTRONICS ALLOWED. YOU MAY BRING A BOOK OR CARDS.

Don’t forget to pack a sack lunch that doesn’t need to be refrigerated. Additionally, a bottle of water. I like to pack things that can be eaten and thrown away, so I don’t have to pack it afterwards. If you order a sac lunch from the school, I will bring it on the bus for them. Lunch orders for sack lunches are due, Friday April 12th. Do not plan to buy food from the museum. Our school policy, doesn’t allow us to provide food for individuals that are not related to chaperones. Stopping in the gift shop is discouraged for souvenirs.
