Not much information about our class this week. Please just remember to read with your child each night for 20 minutes. This exposure is crucial to their reading experience. Whether you let them try to read on their own or not they are being exposed to new words and building their vocabulary to extend their knowledge.
Sunday March 10 is Day Light Savings – Even though its is only an hour, this time change can mess with your kiddo. You know how it can affect adults, imagine how a child reacts to their sleep interruption. Please take that into consideration and help prepare you child beforehand.

Upcoming Dates to remember:
Friday March 1: Dr Seuss day. Students may dress up as their favorite Dr Seuss character.
Sunday March 10 – Day light savings – Spring forward clocks one hour
Friday March 15 – Spring picture day. Students may dress in clothing of choice – Free Dress Down for students not participating.
Friday March 15 – Daddy/Daughter Dance 6-8 pm (see flyer for information)

Feb 19 – Feb 23

Yay for a 3-day weekend!
Remember, no school on Monday Feb 16.
A good portion of the class has been strong with emotions this week. Hopefully some R & R this weekend will help us all recuperate for next week. Adequate sleep, good breakfast and lunch will go a long way.
After this weekend we will be approaching our longest length with no breaks. This time can get taxing on the kids. One thing we will be starting next week is counting down days until they become 1st graders. We are learning two new power words and two new letters with sounds each week. We are cruising right along to being ready for first grade.

Upcoming Dates:

March 15 – Spring Picture day – Students can wear dress down/dress up for these pictures.

Feb 5 – Feb 9

Hello and welcome to a new week.
I just want to say Thank You to you parents for taking the time to meet with me at our Winter conferences. I love getting to tell each of you how amazing your student is and showing you just how much they have grown in the almost 100 day we have been in class this year.

With that in mind we will be celebrating 100 Days Smarter on Friday Feb 9. It will be our 100th day we have been in class. I have some fun activities planned throughout the day. Since it is Friday students can wear spirit shirts with their uniform pants. We will not be dressing up for this activity or for Valentine’s Day. As much fun as it is, we have noticed it does distract from our goals of learning in class. If you have not yet filled it out please let me know on this form if your child can get a treat with any accompanying “Friend Gram” they may receive on valentine’s day. Friend Grams are special valentines sold in the foyer of the school that you can purchase, fill out, and have sent to any friend in either building.

For our class Valentine’s Day fun please refer to my previous post about it.

Hopefully you have all received my email concerning moving where we line up from now on. Quest has ordered another portable classroom that will be placed in the space where we normally line up. The fences have already been moved to accommodate that new structure. Therefore we need to move or line. We will now be lining up where the little red arrow is pointing. 1st grade lines up on the blacktop. We will line up on the edge of the sidewalk. Mrs. Brown’s class will line up next to the building on the sidewalk.

Lastly, the only upcoming date to be aware of is Mon, February 19- President’s Day – NO SCHOOL

Valentine’s Day

Looking ahead a little bit. Wed, Feb 14 is Valentine’s Day. We like to celebrate by handing out cute little valentines to each friend. We have 21 kids in class. These valentines do not need to be extensive. They are just a little reminder we all have friends in class. These Valentine’s should not include food of any kind. Also on that day we still dress in uniforms. Also, Quest has Valentines your student can purchase and have sent to friends or even siblings in other classes. They come with a small treat. Ms. Angelee has a google form asking if each friend who receives a valentine can have a treat. Please fill out this form to allow your child to receive the treat if they get a valentine from another person. I like to send them home at then end of the day in a bag so parents can see them and approve of the treat before eating them. Parents can also purchase and have one sent to their class if you like. I believe the valentines are 25¢.
