Homework for September 26th-30th

Home Bear

All Homework is due Friday September 30th.
This Friday will be the last day to tun in My Math Homework Lessons 10-13 for credit.

There are 4 Components to Homework this week.
1. My Math Worksheets 10-13
2. Math Fluency Timings (Three’s)
3. Reading
4. Spelling

  • I am going to make a master copy of all the timings for you to keep and copy at home. PLEASE DO NOT USE THESE MASTERS FOR ANYTHING OTHER THAN TO MAKE YOUR OWN STUDENT COPIES.
I HAVE NOTICED THAT MANY OF YOU ARE HAVING YOUR STUDENTS WORK WAY TO LONG ON THE MATH FLUENCY TIMINGS. TIME THEM FOR 1.15 MINUTES. If they are only doing a couple problems, have them work another minute or two but no more than that! DO NOT do more than the 25 problems/per night (half a page only)!

Re
ading Homework  will be checked on Monday, September 26th. This is for minutes
read from September 19th -25th ONLY. All other minutes have been recorded and passed due.

1-2 Math Homework:
Monday Lesson 1: Numbers 11 to 19

Tuesday Lesson 2: Tens
Wednesday Lesson 3: Counting by Tens
Thursday Lesson 4: Ten ans Some More

  • Worksheets: Please look in the front of your child’s  green folder on Monday for worksheets with concepts that will be taught in class.  The purpose of this homework is for a quick review, some practice, and a chance for parents to see what their child is learning in math.  Please complete every other problem (alternate between evens and odds so your child gets practice doing story problems AND “Vocabulary Check”/ “Test Practice” problems each week).  If your child wants to do every problem they are certainly free to do so! :) Please help your child read the directions/example problems and allow them to talk about the problems as they figure out the answers. Please check your child’s answers for accuracy!

  • Please print off the “three’s” timings this week from the Fluency Timing link below. Just do a half sheet/day (25 problems). You shouldn’t print off more than 2 pages/4 timings. I would suggest that you place it in a plastic sheet protector, then  have your child practice these facts repeatedly using a dry-erase marker.  Time your student for 1.15 minutes, record their time and score each day at the top of the paper (Again, I have 2/page) attach and return it on Friday.  If your child frustrates too easily because it takes too long to complete, have them practice for 2-3 MINUTES TOTAL (you can be the judge) and write down how many they finished in that time.  By the end of 1st grade, the target goal is to finish the timings in 1 minute and 15 seconds, with 90% accuracy (23 out of 25 problems correct). Encourage your child to keep improving on their own score, rather than expecting them to reach the target goal yet.  We have a whole year to reach it through consistent practice!  Click here for extra timings: Fluency Timings

I love to read!
  • 3. Reading 20 minutes/5 days or a total of 100 minutes/week:
RECORD YOUR READING ON YOUR  “BOOK IT”  READING LOG located in your green folder.
Parents Please update/transfer your students reading this month to the calendar I placed in your student’s folder. DO NOT remove the calendar except to record your student’s reading minutes.
WE are going to participate in the Pizza Hut “Book It” Reading Program. I love this program for so many reasons least of all are ALL the “Free Pizzas” that can be earned just by reading their 100 minutes.

***There are SEVERAL SOURCES for reading:
Books from HOME LIBRARIES  or the PUBLIC LIBRARY  and our ON LINE READING program
    Raz-Kids.  Our login is: dvella0 (that’s a zero)
***CHECK OUT THIS SITE FOR BOOK ON LINE READ BY FAMOUS PEOPLE It’s fantastic!!! http://www.storylineonline.net/

Don’t forget about reading comprehension! Understanding what you are reading is just as important as being a fluent reader!!! PLEASE use these Re-Tell Ropes whenever you are reading with your student checking for understanding.  THIS  HELPS STUDENTS PREPARE FOR OUR  LANGUAGE ARTS WORK ON FRONT ROW AND DIBELS  TEST COMPREHENSION.

High Frequency Words
Here is the link to print our weekly spelling homework form:  New Weekly Spelling Homework **Remember if you choose  not to print off and use this form you need to make sure your student is writing each word and the sentence daily on paper, and that all writing is nice and  neat as well as organized like the form. the papers get turned in on Friday for credit.
The test and daily spelling homework are worth 17 points
NEW WORDS:
for
you
he
on
as
PHONICS FOCUS WORDS:
wax
mad
rat
SENTENCE:
The mad rat sat on the lid.

Your student needs to write the spelling words in the 1st 5 boxes and the 3 Phonics words in the following 3 boxes. There should be plenty of space to write the sentence once on the 2 lines provided at the bottom of each page on the form.
Please take a few minutes to review what your student has written as well as how. I am VERY picky about where the letters go,  and how they are formed and that there is a space between words. Your student should NEVER BEGIN ANY LETTER FROM THE BOTTOM!!!! ***NO BOTTOM DWELLERS!!! It’s so important that students form good writing habits now. Bad habits are VERY hard to break!
