Bell Photography will be here as we return from Spring Break on Monday, April 10th for Spring Personality Portraits.
If you are interested in purchasing pictures you don’t have to do anything right now. Picture packages will be sent home later for you to review before you buy. But if you do not want to purchase pictures, please sign the flyer that came home with your student today and return it. By signing the flyer your student will not have their picture taken and the picture packet will not be sent home.

School Lunch count for Friday March 31st

We are required to submit the FRIDAY lunch count every THURSDAY morning. The school lunch options will be pizza or uncrustables. Please let your child know whether or not they have your permission to choose one of these options and that they need to be prepared to tell me their choice Thursday morning. You can pay for your student’s lunch at the front office.

Wednesday, May 17: ASSEMBLY FOR STUDENTS/FACULTY ONLY – 1:45-2:45

Wednesday, May 17: PARENT/FAMILY PERFORMANCE – 6:00-7:00 (doors will open at 5:40) in the Q1 gym (PLEASE PLAN TO BRING YOUR OWN CHAIRS AND/OR BLANKETS FOR SEATING; CHAIR SEATING WILL BE TOWARD THE BACK OF THE GYM, BLANKETS UP FRONT).

*ALL MATH, SPELLING AND TIMED READING FLUENCY HOMEWORK IS DUE FRIDAY, March 31st

**I WILL BE COLLECTING THE ALL MARCH READING CALENDARS THIS FRIDAY, AND REPLACING THEM WITH APRILS. PLEASE HAVE YOUR WEEKLY MINUTES RECORDED BY FRIDAY.

***READING MINUTES ALSO NEED TO BE RECORDED SUNDAY, APRIL 2ND FOR THE LIBRARY CHALLENGE. IT REALLY IS SO SIMPLE AND TAKES LESS THAN A MINUTE TO COMPLETE.

There are 6 components to this weeks homework:
1- My Math Worksheets: 5-8

Monday Lesson 5: Composite Shapes
Tuesday Lesson 6: More Composite Shapes
Wednesday Lesson 7: Problem Solving: Use Logical Reasoning
Thursday Lesson 8: Equal Parts

Worksheets: Please complete every other problem (alternate between evens and odds so your child gets practice doing story problems AND “Vocabulary Check”/ “Test Practice” problems each week). If your child wants to do every problem they are certainly free to do so ESPECIALLY SINCE THERE ARE ONLY A FEW PER ASSIGNMENT AND ARE PRETTY SIMPLE!! Please check your child’s answers for accuracy

2- Mixed Addition Form B

Practice your fluency timing repeatedly: FROM NOW ON…ONLY TIME YOUR STUDENT FOR 1 MINUTE 15 SECONDS!!! I WANT THEM TO GET USED TO WORKING WITHIN THAT TIME CONSTRAINT… THEN, Record their score each day. We are going to be repeating some past math timings, so, please watch carefully to see which one we are going to be working on each week.

2 + 2 = 4      Picture a wagon with 2 wheels on each side and 4 wheels total
3 + 3 = 6      Picture a 6 pack of soft drinks, with 3 cans on each side
4 + 4 = 8      Picture a spider with 4 legs on each side and 8 legs total
5 + 5 = 10   Picture 5 fingers on each hand and 10 fingers total
6 + 6 = 12   Picture a dozen of eggs with 6 eggs in each row and 12 eggs total
7 + 7 = 14   Picture two weeks on a calendar with 7 days in each week and 14 days total
8 + 8 = 16   Picture a 16 pack of crayons with 8 crayons in each row and 16 crayons total
9 + 9 = 18   Picture a semi (18 wheeler) with 9 wheels on each side and 18 wheels total

The following are programs are EXTRAS, that your student can do for EXTRA PRACTICE. They are not a required part of weekly homework.
Students may use our online reading program Raz-Kids. Our class Raz-Kids login is: dvella0 (That’s a zero)
WATERFORD: You should have all received an email, from WEL support, around the 12th of January. Waterford, a L.A,program, covers many aspects spelling, reading and writing. We use it in our first grade classes on a daily basis.

FRONT ROW: While this is not a new program, it is new to our class. Friday your student took a FRONT ROW pretest for WORD STUDY. They are all leveled, and ready to go. Basically, they will be practicing word sorts according to certain basic phonics/spelling rules . They need to enter their first and last name, as well as OUR CLASS CODE: vellau

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns with any of these programs. I will do my best to answer your questions, and if I can’t, will do some research to find them.

DON’T FORGET TO PRACTICE COMPREHENSION WHEN READING WITH YOUR STUDENT!!!

Here is the link to print our weekly spelling homework form: New Weekly Spelling Homework **Remember if you choose not to print off and use this form you need to make sure your student is writing each word and the sentence daily on paper, and that all writing is nice and neat as well as organized like the form, and that the papers get turned in on Friday for credit.
Our spelling test will be Friday, March 31st.

REMINDER: Updated Name Badges and Lunch Information

THANK YOU!!! THANK YOU!!! THANK YOU!!! To those of you who came in today and took care of your student’s name badge. YOU ROCK!!! If you haven’t taken care of it yet, you have tomorrow to get your student’s name badge taken care of.
If you SEE YOUR STUDENT’S NAME BELOW , you need to either FIND or PURCHASE a new name badge for your student NO LATER THAN TUESDAY, MARCH 21st. Quest will begin using the bar codes Monday, March 20th, so if you could take care of it then ….It would be even better.

When I check through students reading fluency, they aren’t consistent with how they are reading in class. Make sure you are only recording the words read correctly within that 1 minute timing only.

***Your student needs to write EACH SPELLING WORD ONCE in the 1st 5 boxes and the 3 Phonics words in the following 3 boxes. There should be plenty of space to write the sentence once on the 2 lines provided at the bottom of each page on the form.
**I have noticed that there have been students not following these required guidelines and, are therefore, NOT GETTING FULL CREDIT!
