We are the “Long Walk to Water” Fundraiser WINNERS!!!

Yay!  We were able to raise a total of $5,970.61 as a whole school to build a well for a community in Africa!!!  I am so proud of our class though, because we raised $524.94!!  These kids learned SO much about empathy for others during this fundraiser and during all the discussions we had while reading the book.  We had the largest amount of money donated, so each student will receive a copy of the book, A Long Walk to Water as well.  This was a wonderful experience to be a part of with your children.  Thank you so much for your help and support!

Week of April 22nd to 26th

I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter weekend.   We are doubling up on math lessons everyday to fit in everything before testing begins.  Also, I would love to mention how important it is for all students to be present in school unless they are sick…and not checked out unless it’s very necessary.  We are practicing our play the last hour of the day, and we do it every single day until the performance.  I really appreciate your support with this!

***IMPORTANT RISE TESTING DATES!!!***

Parents,
I want to give you all a heads-up about the RISE End-of-Level testing dates in May.  It is very important that your children are here at school on these dates.  Please make sure that they are on time to school as well.  All of our tests are first thing in the morning.  It is also important that they are getting a good night’s sleep the night before with a good breakfast that morning.  Please note these dates on your calendars!  Thanks so much for your support!

I will let the children chew sugar free peppermint gum during the RISE test.  Research does show that peppermint helps calm anxiety in students. Please let me know if you do not want your child to have gum during the tests.

A Long Walk to Water

As a class, we have been reading the book, A Long Walk to Water.  This was a wonderful novel that told a true story about the lack of good water in Africa…and how far they have to travel on foot to find the unclean water that is available.  Finishing this book was a great way to start the week.  We have an assembly today that introduces the Change For Water Challenge we will be participating in this week at Quest.  Please read the attached paper about the challenge.  Thank you so much for helping and supporting this!! 🙂

Also, the money donated for Dollar Dress Down Day this Friday will be donated to this cause.

**Tuesday is Library, so the students need to bring their books back on that day.**

Homework:

Math:  Each student will need to get onto www.reflexmath.com and complete their “green light” Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday (4 sessions).  I will teach the students how to login to the app/website.  Just in case they don’t remember, the class username is “waddell3” and all passwords are “rams”.

Reading:  Each student needs to read at least 20 minutes (Monday-Thursday).  Please print off the Reading Log, fill out the form and return on Friday.  The Reading Log can be cut into fourths and used over the next four weeks.  If for some reason, you can’t print it off, please write it on paper instead. 🙂

Field trip Reminders for Tomorrow!!!

  • Due to powers beyond our control, Wednesday is going to be cold and snowy. Love this fickle Utah weather!
    • Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately. We recommend layers, a coat with a hood, umbrella, etc.
  • If you will be joining us as a chaperone, please support your teachers by being positive and understanding with the weather conditions and museum policies.
    • There is NO food allowed nor space for field trip guests to eat in the Museum including the Discovery Garden, the lobby or café.  There are a few picnic tables and grass area across the parking lot in front of the Museum that you may use.  Please bring your own garbage bags and “leave no trace behind” when cleaning up.
    • Because of the weather, we are encouraging students to have a snack (or part of their lunch) on the front runner on the way there and then finish on the way back, depending on the actual weather conditions.
  • All students will need to meet at the Roy Front Runner Station no later than 8:15.   We will then board the train and ride to Thanksgiving Point.
  • We will be walking from the station to the museum. It is about a 15-20-minute walk (half mile). Please wear shoes and clothing you can walk in.
  • We will board the Front Runner and return to the Roy Station at 4:15.

Please make note of the late arrival! You need to be at the station NO LATER than 4:15. Arrange carpool if necessary.
