November 14 – 18
This week we are learning one of the spellings of the /ā/ (long a) sound.
Look at the word: at . This word has the short a sound /a/. When you add an e to the end, the new word is ate. The letters a and e act together to make the sound /ā/. The kids will be familiar with saying a(consonant)e. A few more example of how the a and e work together are: mat – mate, rat – rate, mad – made, cub – cube). Have fun with your child and finding more words that change just by adding the e!!
Thinking of teen numbers as a ten and some ones
will help your child prepare for adding and subtracting two-digit numbers.
