Secondary 1 Math

Math is one of the most beautiful languages across the globe! Math works the same in every country and every language. At Quest, we are unique in the way we help students learn math and gain the tools that will carry them to and through the future.

Here at Quest, math is taught differently. We use a computer program called Edgenuity, where students are taught individually and at their own pace. Students set individual goals, and work through math concepts at their own pace through activities, videos, and assignments. If students have already mastered a specific concept, they can pretest out of relearning that concept. Every couple of weeks students will be given an assessment to “prove” they have mastered the standards they have been learning. As their teacher, I will be working with them everyday and will explain or expand concepts to them that they may be struggling with or need more help to understand, either one-on-one or in a small group setting.

Grading at Quest is done through Mastery of Standards. Students must show mastery of standards, both understanding of the concepts and their application. Students must get a 90% on their pretest or their “prove it” assessment to be considered mastered for that standard. Students will be given multiple opportunities to prove that they have mastered a standard.

Supplies:
All students will be given a Rocketbook notebook. This will be used and left in class each day. Aside from this notebook, students will simply need a pencil to use. If they would prefer to use a regular spiral bound notebook, they may bring a notebook, that can go home with them each night. Students will have a calculator they can use in class, but if they would like one to use at home please consider purchasing specifically: Texas Instruments TI-30Xa, which can be found for around $10 on Amazon or at Walmart, but is not required.
*Classroom supplies that would be appreciated as donations include: Clorox wipes, tissue boxes, and expo dry-erase markers.
