Multiplication Madness Party

Multiplication Madness Pic
We are hitting multiplication really hard in math right now.  We started the beginning of December with Multiplication Madness! Please start drilling  the multiplication facts with your child. The students are expected to drill their math facts at home also. The students have to pass off their 0′s to 10′s for a required grade. Every student will be given 10 problems to pass off in one minute. Multiplication facts are a huge part of the third grade math core curriculum. The students will have to spend time at home working on these facts in order to pass them off in the time table we have set. The students will have the opportunity to pass off their multiplication facts as many times as they can before the celebration. Our Multiplication Madness Banana Split Celebration will take place on Tuesday,February 14th from 2:00-3:00.

**Students will need to spend time studying multiplication facts so they are prepared. Weekends are a great time to work on multiplication facts (since there is no homework).**

Each part of the Banana Split is one of the multiplication facts that needs to be passed off. You will get that part of the Banana Split ONLY if you pass off that actual fact.
0′s – Placemat
1′s- Napkin
2′s – Bowl
3′s – Spoon
4′s – Banana
5′s – Scoop of Strawberry Ice Cream
6′s – Scoop of Chocolate Ice Cream

9′s – Scoop of Vanilla Ice Cream
10′s – Chocolate Fudge topping
11′s – Whipped Cream

Grinch Party!!!

Next Friday morning on December 16th, the third grade will be having a Grinch Party.  We will be watching the movie, How The Grinch Stole Christmas as a grade.  We will be serving “Grinch Popcorn” (sugared popcorn colored green) “Grinch Pills” (green Sixlets) during the party.  Please let us know if you have a problem with your child eating either of these things.  Since this day is a Dollar Dress Down day, we thought it would be fun for the students to dress up like the Grinch or a Who from the story/movie.  It will add to the fun for sure!

Field Trip Info!!

We are so excited for our first field trip of the year! We will be going to the Children’s Theatre and State Capitol in SLC for the day. It will be such a great time. Just a few reminders: *Please make sure your child is at school promptly by 8:25 because the buses will leave right at 8:30. *Your child needs to bring a backpack. It will hold their lunches, a water bottle and their jacket (please dress for the weather). Whether your child brings their lunch from home or gets a school lunch, they will be carrying it. *Students can bring books and/or games to play on the bus ride, but they will be responsible for it.  *The students need to wear comfortable shoes they can walk in for most of the day. *Students must wear full uniform on the field trip.  They will wear their tie-dyed t-shirts over their uniform shirts for the whole day. They will come home with your child on that day. We will ask your child to wear their shirts on all field trips. There will be other times we ask your child to wear it. I will always post on the blog when those times may be. *All parents that are coming with us need to carpool together. Please pay your $5.00 admission at the door of the Children’s Theatre as soon as you arrive. They won’t let the students enter until all parents have paid. Children’s Theatre Field Trip

Dear Parents,
We are currently planning a fun and adventurous fieldtrip that will take place Tuesday, December 6th. We have the opportunity to visit the Children’s Theatre in Salt Lake for the production Aesop’s Fables. The cost of this production is $5.00 per student for the production and a $1 to help offset the cost of the buses to get there. We are asking each student pay their $6.00 to the front office, and then give their receipt to their teacher.

This fieldtrip is our one and only bus field trip for the year. We will be boarding the buses immediately after roll call and will need every student at school ON TIME.   We will not be able to wait for late students.   Volunteer parents will need to drive themselves or carpool with other volunteer parents. We will first go to the Children’s Theatre and then have lunch on the State Capitol grounds. We will return to Quest Academy at 2:00. Pick up will be at normal time.

School lunch will be available this day; but MUST be ordered by November 18th. Students will also need to bring their backpack on this day. Their backpack will serve as their storage place for their coat and lunch throughout the day. There is no need to bring any money. Please make sure your child is dressed for the weather the day of the fieldtrip.

If you would like to chaperone on this trip, you are more than welcome to join us. The cost of each adult is $5.00, and will need to be paid as we enter the theater. We are sharing the theatre with another school and need to let them know the exact number of parents we will have with us. If we do not have a written commitment from you, by November 18th, you will not be able to attend with us. Please indicate on the form below if you would like to go with us. Due to the nature of this trip and the need of adult supervision, PLEASE make other arrangements for ALL other brothers and sisters.

Please return the bottom portion of this note and pay your $6.00 no later than Friday, November 18th; we will gladly take them before that.

Thank you,
The Third Grade Teachers
