Halloween Festivities Tomorrow

Halloween Parade
The School’s Halloween Parade will be tomorrow from 9:00–10:00am. Parents are more than welcome to come and see the spookiness at Quest!

Halloween Costumes
“Please note that costumes should be modest and without blood or gore. Though students may paint their faces, masks and weapons are not allowed. Anything that depicts violence is banned (knives, guns, swords, spears, etc.). If you have questions about costume accessories, please contact us. Just to reiterate, no blood, either depicted on the costume or in makeup, is allowed.”

School dismisses at 1:30pm tomorrow afternoon. 🙂

What we are learning…

-Math:
I can move up and down the metric system ladders.
I can convert between the standard system and metric system.

-Language Arts:
I can identify personification when reading.
I can read a draft and make necessary changes to create a more meaningful piece of writing.
I can reread a text and answer comprehension questions that come directly from the text.

-Science:
Science Test
I can identify the agents of chemical weathering: water, carbon dioxide, oxygen, plants, and animals.
I can identify the effects erosion and glaciers have on the physical environment.
I can identify the key elements of earthquakes and volcanoes.

-Writing:
I can read a fairytale and look at the different components.
I can envision changes to the fairytale and begin brainstorming ideas for my own fractured fairytale.
I can identify and correct errors in my own writing, including: capital letters, spaces between words, punctuation, descriptive words, etc.


Looking Ahead…
Canned Food Drive:
The food drive is going on through Friday of this week. Please bring canned items only. We will be collecting the food in our classroom. The class who collects the most canned food items will win a prize from administration.

Student Treasures:
As I am sure many of you know, your child is writing a book, and will become a published author. Your child is writing a fractured fairytale, and their creativity and personality is shining through their writing. I am having such a fun time reading the books.

Student Treasures will print a soft paperback version of each child’s book, IF I receive a signed order form. However, Student Treasures WILL NOT PRINT your child’s book if you do not sign the form. Parents are welcome to order a book if you choose. Depending upon the book type you want to purchase, the prices range from $19.95-$27.95. All order forms are due back before, Thursday, November 2nd. If you have any questions, please let me know.

Parent Teacher Conferences:
Conferences will be on Tuesday, November 7th and Thursday, November 9th. Make sure to sign up for the day and time that works best for you. If you do not sign up for a conference Wednesday of this week, I will assign a day and time for us to meet. 
Fall Parent Teacher Conferences

Scholastic Book Fair:
The book fair will be held Monday, November 6th—Friday, November 10th. The Book Fair will be held in the Q1 Gym.

Homework
Please make sure you are completing your homework. All homework assignments are due every Friday. Homework can be found by accessing my blog, and then logging into Google Classroom.

Canned Food Drive

The canned food drive is officially underway! Yay!! Quest Academy has a school goal of collecting 15,000+ cans of food. Our individual class goal is to collect 350 cans of food (I think we can make it happen!).

The school will be holding two dress down days to support the food drive. If your student brings in five cans of food on Friday, October 27th (or before), they can wear FREE DRESS! Also, on (or before) Friday, November 3rd, if your student brings in an additional five cans of food they can wear FREE DRESS! The school is not collecting money for these two dress down days.

Let’s go 5th Grade!! We can make the world of difference to families in need.

Field Trip Tomorrow!!

Here is the schedule for the Field Trip tomorrow, Tuesday, October 24th.

Meet:
-All students must be dropped off, by parents, at the Roy Frontrunner Station before 8:30am.
-Students must bring a home lunch, and something to carry their lunch in (lunchbox or backpack). They are responsible for carrying their lunchbox, backpack during the museum).
-Students are welcome to wear their “crazy socks,” but they need to wear their school uniform. 
-Students CANNOT BRING an electronic device. They are more than welcome to bring a book to read on the Frontrunner or Trax.
-I will prefer if students do not bring money, because there will not be time to purchase any items from the gift shop.

Travel Schedule to Discovery Gateway:
-Frontrunner–leave going southbound at 8:45. Get off at Salt Lake Central Station.
-Trax–Take Blue Trax Line to Planetarium Stop at Gateway
-Walk–Walk to Discovery Gateway. We are at the museum from 10:30am-12:30pm.

Lunch:
-Outside around Gateway fountains. We will eat from 12:30-1:20

Travel Schedule to Roy Frontrunner Station:
-Trax Planetarium Stop–Meet at 1:25pm
-Trax Blue Line to Salt Lake Central Station–Depart at 1:32pm
-Frontrunner to Roy–Leaves at 1:56pm
-Roy Station–Arrives 2:45pm

Pick Up Students:
-Parents will be responsible for picking up their child at the Roy Frontrunner Station at 2:45pm.
-If your child is being picked up by someone other than a parent, PLEASE EMAIL ME TONIGHT so I know who will be picking up your child.
-You are more than welcome to take your child home at this time.

Reminders…

  -No Homework This Week
Since this is a short week, only two and a half days, I am not assigning official homework. It is always a good idea to read every day (even if it is not assigned). 🙂

  -Technology Hour, Tuesday, October 17th
Our class has worked hard these last few weeks as we are wrapping up Quarter 1. To help celebrate, we are holding “Technology Hour.” Your child is invited to bring in an electronic device from home, or they are welcome to use an electronic device from school.

  -Sub Zero Assembly: Wednesday, October 18th
Every student will attend the assembly. If your child wants to make/eat ice cream there is a $3.00 fee. Please pay the fee to the office before Wednesday morning.

  -School Dismisses at 1:30pm on Wednesday, October 18th.

  -No School, FALL BREAK! Thursday or Friday of this week!!

  -Grades and Citizenship for Quarter One
I have been working very hard to ensure your child’s grades and citizenship are up to date and current. Feel free to view your child’s Report Card when the office notifies you the report cards are available. 

  -Looking Ahead:  Tuesday, October 24th
The entire 5th Grade will be going to Discovery Gateway. Your child will need to bring a home lunch on Tuesday. The school will not be providing school lunches on Tuesday.
