The Week of April 21st
April 21, 2025
For the next few weeks we are trying to make learning about the different syllable types fun! For the whole second grade we are going to identify different types of candy that have that type of syllable. (For example: Mike and Ikes has the vowel consonant e – CVCe type). Please keep this a secret until the end of the week! To have your student participate in this activity, please fill out the form here (https://forms.gle/b9iAtdwE6YfmXoME9) by Friday April 25th! This week we will be going over:
ELA: Summarizing – I can read and summarize a story.
Math: Partitioning Rectangles – I can partition rectangles into equal parts.
– Arrays – I can create arrays.
Phonics: Open and Closed Syllables – I can read and identify words with open and closed syllables.
Sight Words: 6.1 – You can create flashcards, have your students use them in a story, or use them in sentences.
What is coming home this week?
There is a new reading and sight words tracker coming home. It is on a light pink paper. Please ensure your child is reading and practicing their sight words!
There is also a new separate tracker on bright pink cardstock to use from 4/14-4/28 to encourage your students to read everyday until End of Year testing in 15 days! This is separate than the weekly one. If your student reads one day that week you get to put in on both trackers!

– Our library day is on Mondays- please make sure your student’s library book comes back with them after the weekend. Please bring them back tomorrow if your child forgot them today.

This week we will be going over:
ELA: Reader’s Theatre – I can read and act out a script from a play.
Math: Partitioning Shapes – I can partition shapes into equal parts.
Phonics: Compound Words – I can read and spell compound words.
Sight Words: Review 5.1-5.5 – You can create flashcards, have your students use them in a story, or use them in sentences.
What is coming home this week?
There is a new reading and sight words tracker coming home. It is on a light yellow paper. Please ensure your child is reading and practicing their sight words!
There is also a new separate tracker on bright pink cardstock to use from 4/14-4/28 to encourage your students to read everyday until End of Year testing in 15 days! This is separate than the weekly one. If your student reads one day that week you get to put in on both trackers!

– Our library day is on Mondays- please make sure your student’s library book comes back with them after the weekend. Please bring them back Wednesday if your child forgot them today.
– Our field trip is TOMORROW! Please send your student in a red uniform shirt and uniform pants! If they are bringing any hats, sunscreen, jackets, etc. ensure they are able to keep track of their items by sending them in a draw string backpack or other small backpack. They will be in charge of their items at the zoo.

Kids Read Now
April 11, 2025
Quest has a program for K-3 students called Kids Read Now. This program allows your child to choose 4 books to be sent to your house this summer! Get on and choose quick as there are limited quantities per book!

Baby Goats!

Mrs. Woodrow got two baby goats over spring break! She would love to bring them for the kids to love on! They are bottle fed by her family, so they love children. Please fill out the form to allow your children to look at and/or pet her baby goats.

ELA: Author’s Purpose – I can identify and support the author’s purpose by identifying two supporting details.
Math: 2D & 3D Shapes – I can recognize and draw 2D and 3D shapes.
Phonics: Digraphs ou (short u) and ea (short e), and y (short i) – I can read and spell words with digraphs and y making the short vowel sounds.
Sight Words: Week 5.5 – You can create flashcards, have your students use them in a story, or use them in sentences.

Hogle Zoo Field Trip

REMINDER: We have a field trip on Tuesday, March 18 to the Hogle Zoo. Please consider paying a $5 donation to the office to help pay for the buses. The zoo entrance is free for all students. We will be leaving at 8:45 Sharp!! We can NOT wait for you. We would like the students to wear red uniform shirts. If you are bringing a lunch from home, please make everything disposable. We will return to the school at approximately at 2:00. We also ask that you do NOT send your student with any money. Students will not be allowed to purchase anything at the zoo.
