The Week of April 21st

April 21, 2025

For the next few weeks we are trying to make learning about the different syllable types fun! For the whole second grade we are going to identify different types of candy that have that type of syllable. (For example: Mike and Ikes has the vowel consonant e – CVCe type). Please keep this a secret until the end of the week! To have your student participate in this activity, please fill out the form here (https://forms.gle/b9iAtdwE6YfmXoME9) by Friday April 25th! If you have further questions please reach out.

This week we will be going over:
ELA: Summarizing – I can read and summarize a story.
Math: Partitioning Rectangles – I can partition rectangles into equal parts.
– Arrays – I can create arrays.
Phonics: Open and Closed Syllables – I can read and identify words with open and closed syllables.
Sight Words: 6.1 – You can create flashcards, have your students use them in a story, or use them in sentences.

What is coming home this week?
There is a new reading and sight words tracker coming home. It is on a light pink paper. Please ensure your child is reading and practicing their sight words!

There is also a new separate tracker on bright pink cardstock to use from 4/14-4/28 to encourage your students to read everyday until End of Year testing in 15 days! This is separate than the weekly one. If your student reads one day that week you get to put in on both trackers!

Reminders:
– Our library day is on Mondays- please make sure your student’s library book comes back with them after the weekend. Please bring them back tomorrow if your child forgot them today.

We are celebrating:
-James’ Star Student Week
