Aug. 26-30

Our first week of school in second grade was great!! We have been busy getting to know each other, learning our classroom procedures, and daily routines.  It has been a joy to get to know each and every student, and I am looking forward to watching them learn and grow this year.

Announcements
Acadience testing (formerly known as Dibels) will begin on Aug. 30th and
 Sept. 3rd from 8:30-10:15.

  • Please make sure your child has had a good nights rest and has eaten breakfast. 
  • Reading aloud to a parent or sibling each night would be a great way to prepare for this!

 Math in Class
We will begin our 1st math lesson this week. Please watch for a family letter to come home so you can discuss what we are learning with your child. There may be a few worksheets that I send home, but I will let you know on BLOOMZ. 

Reading Homework
Please read 20 minutes every night! I will be sending September’s reading log home with your child this Friday. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Back to School Night is Friday, August 16th, from 5:30 – 7:30!
I am excited to share information about our school policies, classroom disclosure and procedures. I will begin each information session on the half hour and you are welcome to attend at any of the following times.

*Last Week of School*

We are officially done with RISE! Thank you for those who tried their personal best! I have enjoyed this year so much. Thank you for allowing me to teach your kiddos.  They are amazing children who have grown so much, and I have loved watching every moment of it!  I will continue to cheer them on as they go into fourth grade. They are all going to do great things!!!!

Thursday – Yearbook Day & Last day of school 

Filed Day – Wednesday
    • Students need to be dropped off at Stonefield Park between 8:00-8:30
    • address: 4529 S 4700 W, West Haven
    • It is dress down, students may wear their swimsuits under their clothes if they like.
    • Bring a towel, shoes easy to walk in, and something to carry their things
    • Students should wear sunscreen and a hat
    • Students will be given a water bottle, pizza, and SHAVED ICE (not sub zero).
    • We will be walking back to the school after lunch

May 20-24

Let me start off by saying that the kids did a wonderful job on their play performance!! They worked so hard, and I couldn’t be more proud of them.  Thank you parents for helping them with their costumes and anything else you may have done to help. I greatly appreciate it!!

This week we will be RISE testing for math. Please make sure students are here on time, with food in their belly. We test Monday at 9:30 and again first thing Thursday morning at 8:45!

Field Day Wed., May 29
Please look at the post from two weeks ago regarding details. There is one minor change, and that is we will NOT be having ice cream, we will be having Hokulia shaved ice instead. I need all permission slips signed and returned this week in order to take part in the 3rd grade field day extravaganza. Thanks!!

We will be wrapping up graphs and line plots this week by taking a test on Monday.

MATH:
 Make sure that your child is doing Reflex for math and getting the green light AT LEAST 3 times during the week.  ***Even though our Multiplication Madness is over, please continue to review facts to maintain the fluency that has been developed***  If students do not complete Reflex at home they will complete it during recess time. 
READING: Please read 20 minutes every night and keep track of your minutes on our reading log. 

May 13-17

We finished all our DIBELS testing last week, and the kids did amazing!! Most of the kids finished their first session of the Language Arts RISE test. We will have a make-up day sometime this week to finish the second session, so please make sure your child is here everyday!

Class Play
Costumes for our play are due this Tuesday!! Dress rehearsal will be Wednesday, May 15 @ 9:00am. We will be performing the play for the school on Thursday, May 16 @ 2:00. Parents are invited to either performance. The play is about 45 minutes long. Please let me know if you have any questions. The kids are so excited to perform for you!!!

Announcements: 
  • Dibels – Everyone has done so well! I will wrap up the few I haven’t read with by the end of this week. 
  • It’s time for RISE testing!! Please make sure your child is here during our testing times. Also, make sure your child has a nice healthy breakfast and plenty of rest. Testing takes a lot out of them!
  •  A few students have asked for the play music to practice. I’ve attached the songs here. Please have them listen with headphones so that the play will still be a surprise when we perform! Thanks!

Carnival Volunteers

Do you have your 30 hours of volunteer time? Volunteering for our school carnival is a great way to get some of these hours. The carnival is May 10, and our parent organization would love some time slots filled. Please click on the signup link to help out. It would be greatly appreciated!!

**Class Play**
Our dress rehearsal will be on Wed., May 15 @ 9:00am. Parents are welcome to come to this performance or to the one on May 16 @ 2pm.  I am asking students to bring their costumes on Tuesday, May 14.

April 22-26

I hope you all had a wonderful Easter weekend!! I can’t believe it’s almost May. This year is moving too fast, and we have so much left to do!

Class Play: 
Practice for the play is in full swing. As we run through the play the kids are getting an idea of what their character is like and what they want their costume to look like. Our play is “Cinderella, A Modern Day Makeover”. Costumes are to be provided from home.  Please don’t think you have to do anything elaborate. Keep it simple!  We will be having a dress rehearsal on Wed., 5/15.  Parents are welcome to come to this performance, as well as the one for the school on the 16th.  The time on the 15th is yet to be determined.
