Math books and January STEM

Parents,
Your student should have brought a math book home. This book is what we have completed in second grade. This would be great to keep to do problems with your child over the summer. That way they won’t forget what they’ve learned. None of this book needs to be completed and returned to school.
We are currently learning about coins and their value. Any extra coin counting, at home,  would be very helpful. Our next math chapter will be telling time. Please help your child get ready by talking about the time and counting minutes and hours.
Here are some pictures of our shovels:

STEM Challenge Club

We will be having one more club, after school, this year. It is limited to the first 20 second graders to turn their permission form into the office. Students who have previously done the club will not be allowed to participate again. If you would like to sign your child up, please print the attached permission form and return it to the office asap.

Name Badges

Here is an important message from our administration>
Please read!
We are hoping to get some help with an issue we are having at the school regarding missing name badges. As stated in our Handbook, “Everyone is required to wear their name badge to attend class (the name badge must be that of the current school year). Please reinforce having name badges as they create a safer environment at the school. To replace a lost name badge, your child will need to pay $5.00 for a new one. A student without a name badge will be referred to the office to call home. Parents/Guardians will be expected to bring their child’s name badge or pay $5.00 for a replacement. Only then will students be allowed to return to class.” Elementary students are to leave their name badges in their classrooms at the end of the day. Jr. High students are encouraged to leave their name badges in their lockers before leaving. To ensure your child receives a full day’s worth of learning in the classroom, please make sure their name badge is left at school and returned the following day if accidentally taken home. Please note, that you have this week as a grace period to either find your child’s lost name badge or replace it for $5.00. Starting Tuesday, January 16 (one week from today), students who do not have name badges will not be attending class until a new one is purchased or their old one is returned. If parents are working when their children call, they are more than welcome to either pay for a badge using a credit card over the phone or to pay online.

Happy New Year!

Hello and Welcome Back!,
I am now allowing students to bring water bottles, as long as they are responsible with them.
Please read, read, read with your student!
They will be bringing math pages home again, as of today. They do not need to be returned to school. I just want you to know what they are doing in math and for a little help, if they need it. Sometimes that one on one help helps them to remember the steps. They will also be bringing January reading calendars home, today.
Thanks for all you do!
Susan Lindsey

Homework and Christmas

Hello!,
There is no math work because we will be taking the chapter test today and will not start a new chapter until we return.
There will be no spelling words sent home until we return. So, when your child says there is no homework they are correct 🙂 However, please have them read all that you can, over the break! We will be testing dibels and reading levels when we return.
Our Christmas party will be on Friday from 10:00 to 11:00. We welcome any parents who would like to come! The students will be rotating through 3 or 4 stations.
Friday is a free dress down day. The students may wear regular clothes, pajamas and/or an ugly Christmas sweater.
Please remember that our school is closed Monday, December 18 to January 3rd.
Have a wonderful and safe Christmas and New Year Holiday!
Susan Lindsey
