Welcome Back!,
I’m glad that everyone had a fun and safe Halloween.
Your student will be bringing their weekly spelling words home today. The unit will end each Tuesday. Please practice reading and spelling the words nightly. Please initial the box each night at this is completed and have your student return it to class on the date posted on the paper. Your child will receive extra stamps on their charts for returning this completed.

We are having a second grade club, after school, on Tuesday, Nov. 14 and 28th and Dec. 5 and 12 from 3:05 to 3:40. The first 20 students in 2nd grade to turn their permission forms into the office will be allowed to participate.

Thank you to those who have been assisting their children with the math that they have been bringing home! It has made  a huge difference in their confidence and math ability!
The school is having a canned food drive! The next two Fridays (Oct. 27 and Nov. 3) are dress down days for students who bring at least 5 cans of food. Please do not send $1, only canned food items. Expired items will not count!

Here is some info from our administration;
Just a reminder that today is an early out day and the beginning of Fall Break. Also, as a heads up, please note that there is no school on Wednesday, November 1st, the day after Halloween. Thanks!

Also, when we come back from fall break it will be Positive Me week. Here are the daily activities that the kids can participate in:
Monday: hats off to being drug free- kids can wear a hat

Tuesday: Be unique!- wear crazy socks

Wednesday: Be a hero!- wear a superhero or team jersey

Thursday: Scare away negativity- crazy hair day

Friday: Become a better you by reaching out to others!- 5 cans of food for dress down day

I will be sending some math pages home each day (next week). These are not required homework. They will be so that you are aware of what we are working on in math and so that you can work one on one with your child for understanding.

New Addition to our Ice Cream Reading Challenge

Hello Awesome Parents and Students!
Tomorrow is our field trip to Gibson’s Green Acres Farm. We will be leaving the school at 10:00 and returning at 1:00.
It is a $1 dress down day so if you would like to send the $1 and put your child in jeans, that would be great!
For those who are sending a lunch with your child, please make sure it is not something that needs to be heated up. If your child is susceptible to sunburns please put sunscreen on them. I am hoping that it will be a beautiful day!
Thank you for all of your help and support! We are off to a great start for our second grade year!

Second grade will be participating in a reading challenge.  Students will earn food items to build an ice cream sundae based on reading minutes. The more minutes read = the bigger ice cream sundae.

*The contest starts on Monday, September 25, 2017.
*The contest ends on Sunday, October 29, 2017.
*The ice cream sundae party will be held on Tuesday, October 31, 2017
*Reading minutes need to be turned in weekly, on Mondays.
*Use the reading logs, which will come home with your student on Monday.
*Reading logs need to be signed by parents to be valid.
*Parents will need to give permission for students to eat the food items.
