Word Study and Poetry Slam

Happy Monday!
I hope everyone had a great weekend! I am so looking forward to spring!
This Thursday, Feb. 2nd we will be having our
Poetry Slam! It will be at 6:00 pm in the school
gym. Everyone in 2nd grade and parents are
invited. We will be having 6 of our class members
share their poems. All other poems will be displayed
for all to see. We have been working hard on our
poetry unit. There will be light refreshments. I will email
parents of those who will be sharing their poem verbally.

Groups C & D will be taking their test weekly. Groups A and B will continue to take word test every other week. Thank you for your continued homework help! Please continue helping your student with number place value and numbers that are greater than, less than and equal to each other.
Group A words:
1-8 simplified Sheet1

Group B words:
1-11 Sheet1

Groups C and D words:
will be sent home with your child

Poetry Slam and short day with $1 dress down

Hello Parents!,
Tomorrow is short day and $1 dress down. If you choose to send your child in uniform, you do not need to pay.

Thursday, February 2nd will be our first ever,
2nd grade Poetry Slam!
Several students from each class will be
performing their poem and all student’s poetry will
be displayed for viewing.
It will go from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm in the Q1 gym.
Light refreshments will be served.
On Tuesday we will know who will be performing from our class.
Watch for an invite that will be sent home with your child!

Homework Jan. 23 to 27

Happy Snowy Monday!,
We are starting on place value in math. Will you please write numbers to the hundreds and have your child identify what number is in the hundreds, tens or one place. Also, greater than and less than. Choose two number and help your child to decide which one is greater and lesser.
Please have your child tell you what group he/she is in. This will determine which group of words that you will need to print off for sorts. 

Group A:

Group B:
1-10 Sheet1

Groups C and D:
I will be sending this sort home today. We are having technical difficulties with downloading it 🙂

Homework

Happy Tuesday!,
We are still assessing due to dibels testing and placement of word sorts. Our big struggle is remembering the steps when regrouping multiple numbers in subtraction.
Please work on the attached math sheet as soon as possible because our test on this concept is this coming Friday.
Please continue to read each night for a minimum of 20 minutes.

Homework and Tardies

Hello!,
We are still assessing so we will be working on high frequency words here at school. Therefore, there is no word study homework this week. However, please read, read, read with your student! We are currently testing on Dibels so your child’s reading fluency is very important. Also, please continue to work on the math sheet that I posted last week.

We have about 10 of our class’ students showing up late each day. I teach whole group math at 9:00 each morning. When your child shows up after the lesson, he/she is missing the entire math concept for the day. Please help us by getting your 2nd grader to school on time each day! This is soooooo important! Please help me in this matter.

Welcome Back!

Happy New Year!
This week we will be reassessing for word study groups so there will not be any sort homework for the week.
Friday is a short day but not dress down.
We are working on subtracting to the hundreds place with some regrouping. Please complete the attached sheet, with your child, as homework and be sure to read at least 20 minutes a day. Thanks for all you help!

Second Grade Club

Second grade will be starting a yoga/meditation/small movement club on Tuesday, January 10th. The club will be on Tuesdays for the month of January from 3:10 to 3:40.
It will be on a first come, first serve basis. The first 20 students to sign up will be admitted to the club at this time. Those in the club will be allowed to bring comfortable clothing to change in to for the club.
