I hope everyone had a wonderful long weekend!
2nd grade won the box top competition for this quarter! We earned a free dress down and 2 awesome bags of recess balls!
We will be having our dress down on this Friday, January 22nd. The students have the option to wear pajamas if they would like. If they don’t want to wear pajamas, they are still allowed to wear dress down clothes.
I will be sending home a math sheet today. Please work on this with your child this week for math homework. We have completed 2 lines in class.
Thank you for your help!

We are in the lead for box tops this quarter! They will be collecting the box tops on Thursday, January 14th to decide the dress down winners.
Please ask grandmas, aunts and neighbors for their box tops and send them in by Thursday!
Thanks!!!!!
Happy Friday!,
Word study words for this next week will be the same words they have been studying this week. We have had some activities that have made it hard to complete the daily work on our sorts here at school, this week and next week is short. Therefore we will not take the test this week, but we will take it on Thursday, Jan. 14th.
Please be aware that there will be no school for the students on Friday, Jan. 15th for end of the quarter and teacher training and also no school on Monday, Jan. 18th for Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
We are in need of paper for our class. If you are able to donate a ream of paper, it would be greatly appreciated!
We will be having a Valentine’s party on Friday, February 12th. We will have this party from 1:45 to 2:50. We will not be rotating between classes for this party. If you would like to plan a 15 minute activity for our class to do, let me know.
Have a wonderful weekend!

Welcome Back!,
I am attaching this week’s word study words. We have changed some groups and we have made some changes to our words to study. Your student will still receive a sort group but everyone will be also working on 4 high frequency words each week. The high frequency words will be the same for everyone.
We are going to be scoring their tests with 1 point for the rule being written correctly and 1 point for the word to be spelled correctly. The high frequency words will be 1 point each for being spelled correctly. The students will be tested on 10 sort words each week which will make 20 points possible with the high frequency word point as extra credit. Therefore, each student can get extra credit each week, if it is earned.
I am also hearing that many of the students are past the addition and subtraction in Moby Max. If this is where your child is then they can go to Front Row Ed to do math activities. The class login is dwkdp4.
Some of your child’s words are words that they have already had this year. Please note that we are working towards mastery and use of the words in everyday writing as well as for word study. The repetition will help with this mastery and use of the words and rules in your child’s everyday writing.

Happy Monday!,
We will not have homework this week! However, please read with your child daily this week as well as over the Christmas break! The kids will be tested on one minute reading timings right after the break, so we don’t want them to fall behind during that time.
On Friday, this week, we will be having our class Christmas party. Activities will begin at 10:20, we will have a break from 11:00 to 12:00 and will resume from 12:00 to 1:00. We will be rotating through the different 2nd grade classrooms. The activity for our classroom will be stringing popcorn and cranberry necklaces. I will need help with this since thread will need to be threaded through needles and to help to avoid too many pin pokes to the fingers 🙂 I will be providing pizza for those who are here, so if you have not already let me know you are coming, please do so.
Have a wonderful week!

Good Morning!,
For our December STEM project we will be creating our own toys from random items found around the house. There are so many ideas and options that I am asking for your help. Please send items to school with your child that will help with this project.
Some items would include:
cupcake liners
empty toilet or paper towel rolls
paper plates
small boxes
cotton balls
plastic cups
fabric
mailing supplies
poster board
coffee filters
index cards
magnets
plastic containers
and anything else the imagination can come up with 🙂
If your student would like to bring specific items for himself/herself, that is fine.
I really appreciate your help in this! We will be making our product on Tuesday the 15th.
Have a great week!
Susan Lindsey
