When I ask students and parents to describe what “science” looks like, the response I typically get involves a description of an odd genius in a white lab coat mixing various strange chemicals in beakers and flasks.
Kind of like this…
If i’m being honest, science does look like this sometimes. However, I think a more accurate idea of what science looks like today would be…
The science of today is so much more than just digging in the dirt and studying rocks. Science is about exploration, discovery, and finding out why stuff is the way it is. Science is a hands-on experience that encourages and promotes curiosity. For example, why do planes need wings to fly but rockets don’t, why is the sky blue, or my personal favorite, if a tree falls in a forrest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound? Science is able to answer all of these questions!
I invite you to join me this year as we explore, wonder, experiment, and discover answers to questions about the world we live in!
