A message from our librarian

Dear Parents,

As you enter the front doors of Q1, you will notice a large tree just outside of the library. You may be wondering why I have put together this massive tree. I call it the “Tree of Imagination”, and it is my hope that this will be another fun way to promote reading with our students. As of now the tree is “leafless”. The leaves will be contributed by the students. This is how it will work:

1. First, the requirement to get a “leaf” on the tree is to read 3 books.
2. Once a student has read 3 books, he/she will fill out a leaf (which is really an open book template) from the library with the title of each book and the student’s name.
3. The student then gives the completed leaf to the librarian for a small prize, and I will put his/her leaf on the tree.
The students need to keep track of what they are reading, and then they can come to the library and fill out a leaf. I am asking the students to show integrity with the books they read. As participation is not required, it is a choice, and it is therefore their responsibility. With the younger grades I would expect help from parents to keep them motivated and on track.

The students have asked if the books they read have to be from our library or if they can be from home. The books can be from anywhere as long as they are appropriate for the student’s age/reading level.

I want this tree to grow throughout the year, and I will be changing the colors of the leaves as we pass through each season. We will start with fall colors, then move to white or gray for winter, and finally to green in the spring.

I hope we can count on your support to help our tree grow and to show everyone who walks through the front doors what fabulous readers we have here at Quest.

Additionally, our librarians are starting a “Make Your Mark” bookmark contest next week. The form, which is attached, should be submitted by September 24th. Students who would like to enter their bookmark design into this contest need to have their entry submitted by September 30th. Submissions can be turned in at either library. The panel of judges will award eight students (each) with a $1,000 UESP college savings scholarship. Please direct any questions regarding this contest to Mrs. Ingersoll.
