Fantastic 50 Reading Challenge

I recently introduced a program to my students that we are really excited about.  It’s called the “Fantastic 50 Reading Challenge”, and I’ve had a lot of success with it in past years.  The basics of this challenge are as follows:

  • I challenge all of my students to try to read at least 50 books in a year.  (Notice that this is a challenge, not a requirement.)
  • If students succeed in this goal, they will get prizes at the end of the year.
  • The year of reading started at the end of last school year, and it will go until the end of this school year.  Therefore, any books that students read over the summer will count.
  • For books to count, they must be at least 100 pages long.
  • There is also a genre checklist that tells students how many books from each genre they should read.
  • Students should keep track of the books they read on the record I’ve provided them.  If a student happens to lose his/her record, you will have to print out a new one.  (Find the document below.)

Please ask your student how the challenge is coming along throughout the year!  Better yet, take on the challenge yourself!
