First Week Updates

Well, we’ve survived the first week!  In my personal opinion, we actually thrived.  I have been incredibly impressed with my students, and I look forward to getting to know each of them better.  I just want to provide you with a few updates/reminders and to fill you in on what we’ve been up to in class.

We had a busy week crammed with explanations of policies and procedures, conversations about book recommendations, and getting-to-know-you activities.  (Ask your students about Biography Ball to learn more.)  There are four things that are due in all of my classes by Friday:  signed disclosure statements, all suggested daily materials (especially a composition notebook for each of my classes), completed “All About Me” sheets, and completed “Favorite Book” index cards.

I have already received disclosure statements from most of you.  I will accept either a signed hard copy or an email stating that you’ve read over everything.  If anyone will be unable to provide a composition notebook, please contact me; I will be buying more notebooks over the weekend for students who need them.

Below, you will find a few documents that we went over in class this week.  The first document explains several of my classroom procedures.  The second explains how students earn participation points in my class.  The third is a form you can print and fill out anytime your students need to make up independent reading points because they were absent.

Independent Reading Absentee Note

As always, if you have any questions or comments, please let me know!
