Classroom Policies:

Attendance – It is extremely important to be here on time and to attend school everyday.  In the classroom we will have class discussions, lessons, and activities that are important to be a part of.

Absences- Student work will be left in a folder on top of their desk while they are absent. It will be the students responsibility to meet with me and go over the material and questions on the work.  Class work missed is to be completed as homework and turned in by the date specified.  The number of days your student has to make up absent work is equal to the number of days he or she has missed.  If you plan to pick your students work up at the end of the day, please notify the office by 9 a.m. to give me time to get the assignments put together before the end of the day.

Curriculum- Our focus will be on the Utah State Core Curriculum.

Homework- Students are expected to be responsible for completing and turning in all homework and projects on tie.  Homework will be posted to the blog weekly. Students will have homework nightly Monday-Thursday.

Reading- Please encourage your child to read at least 20 minutes a night.  This is part of their homework.

Math- Homework will be given daily that is tied to the day’s lesson.  Details will be posted on my blog.

Tests- Tests are used as a gauge of my teaching as well as student learning.  Tests are typically given at the end of each unit in math, science, reading, and spelling.  Please make sure your students are reviewing these word study sorts nightly as part of their homework.

Birthdays- Administration has asked that students not bring in any food-type treats.  Please do not feel obligated to have your student bring in anything for their birthday.  Your child’s birthday will still be acknowledged.  To avoid any hurt feelings, please mail birthday invitations to classmates’ homes.  Each child’s birthday will be celebrated in class by the teacher.  Summer birthdays will be celebrated in the last month of the school year.

This is where you can keep on top of your student’s assignments.  You can access my blog from the Quest Academy website, under Faculty.  Sign up to “follow” my blog this year to receive up to date emails and notices about classroom happenings.  Also, if you have any questions, feel free to email or call me at the school.

Classroom Discipline- Students will be required to maintain a respectful presence in my classroom at all times.  I believe that students achieve more when they know they are in a safe and positive environment, are ready and willing to learn, and respect the teacher and other students.  I will be using a money system this year to teach students counting, spending, and saving money.  They will receive money for any or all of the following: turning in homework on time, attending class on time, being on task, clean/organized desk, extra work, etc.  This money can be spent at our class store for prizes.  If a student is not on task, leaves their chair out (parking ticket), not following the classroom rules, being disrespectful, not following directions, late/ unfinished work, etc.  Please follow through at home with both the good and the bad behavior so that we can be working as a team to help our students be the best they can be!  I believe it is just as important to reward good behavior as it is to reprimand bad behavior.

Class Rules- Respect yourself, others, and our school.  Keep your hands, feet, mouth, and objects to yourself.  Follow directions the first time they are given.

Grading- Grades will be updated at least on a weekly basis.  Be sure to check your student’s progress.  You can obtain a user name and password during back to school night.

Grading Policy-       listed under parent information –>grading scale
