Discuss the significance of the two group of boys (who don’t know each other and Karim is initially wary of…) joining together and able to move the rock. (Progress…)  Think of one of the themes of the book: the opposing Israelis and Palestinians…)  What could this scene represent? What could the Israeli and Palestinian leaders learn from this? What could we as humans learn from this?

J17- React to Hopper’s behavior with Israeli tank. (Swinging on barrel, eggplant “bomb”). Was he being brave or reckless? Or both?  Why did he behave that way?

J18- Do you have pets (or had) that have made a difference in your life? Why does Karim feel betrayed by Aziza? Is she a “traitor?”

J19- What do you think Karim imagines an “ordinary life” would be like? Do you consider your life ordinary? Why/why not?
