Optional practice pages

Hello Parents,
I have had some people asking me to post optional review pages  to help students who could use a little extra practice with math.  Last week we worked on multiplying multi-digit problems.  Many students are proficient in using the area model to solve them, but we would like to move them into the standard algorithm (The traditional way of doing it.)  I have posted a  link to a sheet with a few problems that you could work on together if you would like.

This week we will be doing long division.  This is a skill that requires a lot of repetition and practice to do well.  We are practicing a lot this week, but if you wanted to do one or 2 problems with your child each day to help review the skill, it would be great.  We are only using the standard algorithm to solve them.  I have attached a 2 practice sheets that you could have them do if would like.  The first one reviews what we did today, the second one is more advanced and we will be learning it in the next day or 2.
Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks for everything you do!

Time flies!

I can’t believe another week has flown by.  Thank you all for the kind birthday wishes and gifts.  It made my heart so happy!
We have been working on multi-digit multiplication this week.  We are especially focusing on doing the standard algorithm. (You know, the way that we all learned to do it when we were in school.)  Please look for opportunities to practice with your student.  The upcoming week we will be doing long division.  Again, while we don’t have required homework, it would be a good idea to check in with your kiddo and see how they are doing; if they are understanding how to do it.

Several of the students have been wanting to do Prodigy.  We do have a class code that they are welcome to use to play it at home.  Our class code is: BC7F10   (MAKE SURE YOU USE ALL CAPS.)

As a quick reminder, I will be doing Math tutoring on Tuesday from 3:00-3:30.  I sent an email inviting students that I thought would benefit the most, but if you would like your child included please let me know.
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.  As always, thanks for sharing your amazing children with me, and please let me know if there is anything I can do to make their school life better.

Happy Friday!

Hello All,
It was another great week.  We crammed as much fun and learning as possible into 4 short days!  We are starting to get into a routine and hopefully things will really start going smoothly as we all work together to do our best.

Just a few items of information:
1. We started doing our beginning of year benchmark testing for reading fluency and comprehension today.  About half of the students read with me today and the other half will test on Monday.

2.  This coming week, September 9th through 13th we will start doing homework.  The expectation will be 2o minutes of reading per night and 3 green lights on Reflex Math.  I will send out a form to be filled out saying if the student did  his or her homework for the week.

3. Don’t forget about our fundraiser.  How amazing to think that not only are we helping Quest, but also helping to build schools for students in need!
Orders are due next Friday, September 13th.

4. Please continue sending in items for our stem project, please see the information below for ideas of what we need.  Students can continue bringing items through next week.

Thanks everyone, as always please contact me with any questions or concerns!

We’re off to a great start!

Hello friends and family of my fabulous 5th graders!  We have had a great first couple of days.  We are quickly mastering our lockers, and learning the procedures that will help us have a happy classroom.

A few students are still missing their computer use permission forms, so be sure to get those in as soon as possible.

I am really enjoying getting to know my amazing students! I can tell we’re going to have a fantastic year.

As always, please contact me with any questions or concerns

Ready for an amazing school year!

Greetings!

My name is Jelaine Hales, and I am excited to be joining the incredible 5th grade team at Quest this year! I am looking forward to working hard with my students to inspire and encourage them to achieve their very best!  I believe that we learn the most when we have fun and are enjoying ourselves, so I will strive to make a learning environment that is welcoming, happy, and positive.

We will have opportunities to learn new things and become better every day!   We’ll work hard and develop a growth mindset to help us understand that it is okay if we make mistakes and can’t do something – YET.

I know that every student can learn, and I will do everything I can to help them to learn in the way that works best for them.  I look forward to getting to know you and working with you so we all can have a fantastic 5th grade year!

Thank you,

Mrs. Hales
