Here are some pictures from our first stem challenge and it was awesome. The problem was to build a spider web using only dental floss and chairs. Then have the web withstand the weight of an object being dropped on it. I chose to drop a small stuffed bear on their web. After I did that, they had the opportunity to see where the web was weak and improve their plan. Then we tested it again, and last they presented their plan to the class describing how their first vision was and how they improved their product. One of my teams chose to only use one chair and it went surprisingly well. Their web ended up being very similar to a trampoline. We are getting ready to plan for our next stem challenge.
