What we are learning

We are now beginning Unit 8 in Language Arts. Below are the sight words, oral vocabulary words, letters, and sounds we will be mastering during the next 3 weeks.  In addition, we continue to read decodable books and passages. You can listen to us read and encourage us to read the passages we bring home each week. We are also learning to write sentences about the texts we read.

As a class in math, we are making teen numbers. And we will be counting to 100 by 10’s and 1’s. Individually, the students are working to master their current selected math standard. Ask them about their Nearpod lessons and encourage them to work on it at home.

In science and STEM, we will be exploring plants and the things they need to survive. We will grow and care for our own plant. Watch for our plants to come home the Friday before spring break.

What we are learning

We are now beginning Unit 7 in Language Arts. Here are the sight words, oral vocabulary words, letters, and sounds we will be mastering during the next 3 weeks. In addition, we continue to read decodable books and passages. We are also working on writing sentences. We ask ourselves…Does it have a capital? Does it have a space? Did you put the punctation in its place? (and the rest are lowercase?)

As a class in math, we will be solving addition and subtraction word problems to 10. We will also be exploring teen numbers. Individually, the students are working to master their current selected math standard. Ask them about their Nearpod lessons and encourage them to try the challenge activity when they master the math standard.

In science and STEM, we will be comparing how animals are alike and different. And we will be exploring how animals change their environments

STEM activity

Our challenge for our STEM activity was to figure out a way to make the sun shine on a city that is always in the shade during the winter. We used different materials and different angles to find out how to reflect the “sun” onto the city. We love STEM!

Update!

It was previously stated that Quest has a no food policy for Valentine’s. We met with administration this week and they said we are allowed to pass out store bought wrapped food items/treats if you’d like to do that instead of non-food items.

Also, if you haven’t already, please fill out this Permission form for the party.

Thanks so much! And thanks for sharing your kindergartner with us. We really do have the best class ever!

Helpful hints for our party

We will be celebrating Valentine’s on Monday, February 14th

Valentine’s Helpful Hints:
1- We have 18 students and 2 teachers in our class.
2- Only write who the Valentine is FROM. Do NOT address Valentine’s to each student (this will help the students distribute their Valentine’s in a more orderly manner).
3- We will be making Valentine’s bags in class for the students to collect their Valentine’s.

Valentines Day Party

We will be having a Valentines Day Party on Monday February 14th.

Stores are now stocked and ready for Valentine’s Day.  To help you properly prepare for our class celebration, here are the Quest guidelines in regards to Valentine’s:

“Per Quest’s wellness policy, all food in the classroom must be pre-approved. Furthermore, parental permission is also required for students to consume food during class parties. Due to this policy—as in years past—student Valentines cannot contain edible items. Suggestions for nonfood Valentines include pencils, erasers, bubbles, stickers, etc. Please note that such items, including Valentine cards, are in no way required.”
