This week for Math homework they will be doing doubles and near doubles. Here is our doubles rap to help them answer the questions.

Homework for Week Dec 5-9th
The homework tracker is for tracking minutes, number of math facts completed, and the phonics fluency story timing.
1. Reading (20-30 minutes every day!)
2. Word Sorts
3. Spelling
4. Math
5. Moon Journal -Due at end of the quarter if not turned in already
Each week, print out the homework-tracker which is found here. PLEASE right your child’s name at the top of this tracker and staple them all together.
Your child is required to read 20 minutes every night. This could include Raz Kids, reading books at home or our fluency passage. Here is the link to your child’s phonics-fluency-stories sheet. Please print Lesson 24 and have your child read it each night. Time them for 1 minute and have them read as many words as they can. If they get to the bottom they will go back to the top and continue reading until the 1 minute is up.
PLEASE make sure your child is bringing their blue folder everyday to school. These passages are another resource for reading but I am asking that you have them read it at least 3 times a week.
They need to be timed for 1 minute and then using their retell ropes (in back of sheet protector) to tell you as much as they can about the story.

- Monday: Print, cut, and sort your words with an adult and explain this week’s rule. Sort each word under the correct guide word.
- Tuesday: Practice the sort and write it on the back of the homework tracker.
- Wednesday: Blind Sort (Lay down the guide words and then read the rest of the words aloud without showing them to your child. Your child must indicate where the word goes without seeing it.
- Thursday: Speed Sort: Time your students three times doing their word sorts and record it on the homework tracker.
- Study the following “High Frequency Words” using any method you wish in order to prepare for the weekly spelling test on Fridays.
- There is a list of recommended spelling study activities that you can access BY CLICKING HERE for Spelling Word Activities, but, again, you may use any method you wish.

Winter Party December 16th
I have two opening spots for our Winter Party coming up. It will be on Friday December 16th after lunch from about 11:45am-12:50pm. We usually meet around 10:30am when lunch starts to coordinate and get ready.
We are in charge of coming up with a game. I do not currently have a volunteering willing to be in charge and plan a game and coordinate with other moms. If you are willing to do so please email me.

NO HOMEWORK over the break! Enjoy being with family and friends. I just wanted to say how thankful I am for your kids. They make me smile and bring me joy each and every day! I hope you have a wonderful week and enjoy your Thanksgiving! I will pass out the following weeks homework on Monday when they return.
Mission K9 Rescue Service Project
Last Friday we attended a special Veteran’s Day Assembly with the Crismer’s and their war dog Mazzie from Mission K-9 Rescue. We learned about the sacrifices many dogs are making to protect the lives of our soldiers. Unfortunately, these dogs are left behind after their work is done. Mission K-9 Rescue is striving to Rescue, Reunite, Re-Home, RehabilitaThis year for one of our service learning projects we will be collecting coins to donate to Mission K-9 Rescue.
As a First Grade we have been learning that everyone can serve and help others through stories such as “The Lion and the Mouse”. Though our children may be young, they too can make an important difference and our small contributions of a coin here and a few coins there will truly add up to something great.
We are also learning about financial literacy principles; for example, we are learning about the principle of saving and we are learning that, to earn money, one must work. We are encouraging our students to do extra jobs at home for family or friends to earn coins to add to our Mission K-9 Rescue fund. Coins will be collected in a jar in our classroom.
