Homework/Parent Teacher Conferences

I sent home some of our homework for next week with your child today. This included a math packet and an animal report. I will send homework home, and post the rest of the homework every Friday for your convience, however homework should be done over the course of the following week. Please check the homework section of my blog to get all of their homework for the week there are instructions on there as well to help!

Fluency Passages: I had VERY FEW recordings on the fluency recording sheet for this week. Please read the fluency passage with your child, their are instructions under the language arts homework section of the blog. Find the fluency recording link and please log the information down so I know how often they are reading it. I will change our their passages according to this. If I don’t see that they are reading it they will be stuck with the same passage. As a courteousy while we are all learning and getting used to it I changed out those fluency passages that came back to me today. However, A LOT of students left their blue folders at home. PLEASE make sure they bring their blue folders every day and bring back their passages each Friday so I can switch them out for the next week. If you need help with recording their fluency minutes please let me know I’d be happy to show you!

Math Homework: Our math homework will go along with what I am teaching. The math homework sent home with your child today is not anything I have taught them. I will teach lesson 5 on Monday and then they will need to practice the odd problems of their math worksheet lesson 5 that evening. Then lesson 6 on Tuesday and they will practice and so on and so forth. If this does not make sense please let me know. I only want them to practice a few problems each day.

Animal Reports: Your child picked an animal that they wish do to a report on. They need to fill out that report page and then draw a picture of their animal. This is due next Friday. If your child forgot what animal they choose here is the list. Feel free to use any source to get your information, including: internet, encyclopedia, other books, etc.

Updates!

Great news: we are happy to announce that our field trip to the zoo is definitely going to take place!  We had a few 1st grade parents who were very generous with their donations and covered the deficit.  Thank you so much!  We are still planning on leaving for Hogle Zoo at 8:45 on Tuesday, September 8th. 🙂

Zoo2 We have LOTS of parent volunteers so thank you for helping out. Please remember to have your child wear a RED shirt with their uniforms. This will help us keep track of our students. Also parents who are volunteering if you could bring a backpack to pack all of the students lunches in your group that would be great. With all of our volunteers you should only have about (about) 3 students in a group with two volunteers.

Parents please pack your child a lunch in a DISPOSABLE bag so that they can eat their lunch and throw it all away so we don’t have extra baggage. Also remember nothing that needs to be refridgerated.

HOMEWORK: Please check the homework section on the blog. I am posting a syllabus so you know what homework to do for what week. If there are any changes from the syllabus I will let you know. I decided with a short week and the field trip to make next week a reading week. I will be sending home fluency passages with instructions for reading with your child. We have been practicing in class so they should know how to do it on their own.

Thanks!

Odds and Ends

This week was a great week! Here is a few things to remind you or for you to make note of.
Centers:
Centers won’t start for a while but if you signed up to help during centers I would love your help this week with a few things. If you could come in on your day between 9:00 and 10:20 that would be great!

Box Tops/Soup Labels:
We are collecting box tops and soup labels. The grade that gets the most collected gets a prize. Please save these and send them with your student every so often and I have a bucket to collect them in here at the school.

Field Trip:
I have sent home a field trip permission slip with each student. If you did not get one or still haven’t turned it in please get with me or turn it in. I am in the process of making groups and need to know who I will have there. Thanks!

Homework:
I will be training and going over homework this week (hopefully) so don’t plan on homework for a while I will let you know. However, please go on the school’s website and under student links you will find Raz-Kids. Here is my class username qbischoff. Please have your student go in and click on their name and have your student read 20 minutes every night. I have read with every student this week and in order for them to progress they need to have a routine of reading everyday!

Scholastic Book Order:
I passed out scholastic book order forms. Please go online and order with this class code: P4V4R

I will be submitting that order at the end of the week. I am not allowed to collect money at the school so please do this online.

That was a lot of information but I will start trying to write one post every Friday to fill you in on everything.

Thanks!

Snack during Recess

Parents/Guardians,

We have been given permission for the next two weeks to allow your students to bring a small nutritious snack to our last recess. We feel that this may help them to be able to transition to a full day of school. They will get used to waiting until after school but we want to help them get to that point. We are asking that the snack be no bigger than the palm of your hand. Ex: granola bar, raisins etc. Please no food containing nuts for allergy reasons.

Thanks!

Picture Day/Field Trip

Awesome second day of school! Talk to your child about what it means to fill someone’s bucket. Or about what we did with a balloon and filling my bucket today.

I sent home a picture day sheet home with your students today. (sorry it wasn’t in a folder we will have those ready hopefully tomorrow) Please make sure to write down Monday August 24th for picture day. If you would like to buy pictures money for pictures goes to the office. When your child brings it back I will send them there to pay for it.

Also just a reminder, our Field Trip coming up is on September 8th we are going to the Hogle Zoo. We are asking for a donation of $3.00 per child to pay for the buses to get there. If you would like to come and have little ones that are coming along with you, you will need to pay for their entrance fee. Parents that were not at back to school night your child should have taken it home. I will double check tomorrow to make sure that they have.

First Day Fun! Parking Lot Change

We had an awesome first day of school I am so impressed with our class. I hope they had as much fun as I did. Ask them about our classroom rules (see if they can sing you our song) and if they can remember our morning song we sang. Also ask them about our behavior chart and what happens if they move their clothespin to the top and what happens if they move to the bottom.

Click below to view our classroom rules.

Parking Lot Change: At the end of the day I thought I was going to be able to stay with the students the first two weeks but administration has asked that I go to the back of the building starting tomorrow. I will walk them out to the front of the school, in front of the Kindergarten classrooms (where they were today). After that if they have a meeting spot with you they can go there. Make sure your student knows exactly where to meet you. I had a lot of students that seemed confused.

I was hoping to get to take a picture of each of your students on their first day but we ran out of time. I will be taking a picture of them tomorrow so you can see how they change from now compared to the end of the school year.

Thank you parents for all of your help and support!
