Reading in Class

  • The essential question is: “How do the earth’s forces affect us?
  • Comprehension Skill: Author’s Purpose
  • We will be focusing on the spellings for long a: (a, ai, ay, ea, eigh, and ey) in our spelling words: nail, train, main, hay, stay, break, steak, weigh, sleigh, prey. Review: scrape, strange, good, often, two
  • Our Vocabulary words are: amazing, force, measure, objects, proved, speed, true, weight.
  • Math in Class
  • We will be taking our test on subtracting 2-digit numbers with regrouping on Wed. 11/18. We will then begin our lessons on simple 1 step word problems.

Announcements:  We will begin building our dioramas in class on Tuesday, Nov. 10. Please send a box about the size of a shoe box with your child. Your child may also bring any supplies they would like to use to create their habitats for their animal.

Reading in Class

  • The essential question is: “What do we love about animals?
  • Comprehension Skill: Key details & Multiple Meaning Words
  • We will be focusing on 3-letter blends (scr, spr, str, thr, spl, shr) in our spelling words: scratch, scrape, spring, throne, stripe, strange, shred, shrub, splash, split. Review: catch, sting, far, flower, until.
  • Our Vocabulary words are: behave, flapping, express, feathers.

  • This Monday we will be taking our test on adding up to four 2-digit numbers ( 21 + 34 + 17 + 43). We will then begin our lesson on subtracting 2-digit numbers with and without regrouping.

Announcements:  Thank you so much for coming to parent teacher conference. I loved talking about your child and celebrating their growth. I can’t wait to see them achieve even more.

Fundraiser pickup times are as follows: Monday October 26th 11-12:30pm and 2-6pm. Please make sure to pickup all orders as we have no way of keeping them refrigerated. Prizes have been ordered and will be distributed as soon as we receive them.

Parade: The parade will be at 9:00, so please have your students wear their costumes to school. Watch from home: parents will be sent a link to a YouTube live streaming session. On-campus children: Parents are welcome to bring camping chairs or blankets and set them up along the outside of either building (the yellow dots indicate where families can sit). Everyone watching the parade on campus needs to be wearing a mask and should position themselves as close to the building as possible to allow our students to parade on the sidewalks surrounding the schools. Families should also allow six feet between them and neighboring families. **Costumes should be modest and without blood or gore. Also, face coverings must be worn throughout the entire day. Students are welcome to paint their faces and wear Halloween masks; however, those masks will only be worn when directed to do so by the classroom teacher (e.g. during the parade, when a class picture is taken, etc). Weapons and anything that depicts violence are not allowed on school property (knives, guns, swords, spears, etc.).

  • We will be learning the soft c (ce, ci), and the soft g (dge, ge) sounds for our spelling: trace, place, badge, cage, space, ice, bulge, range, barge, mice. Review: mule, huge, out, wash

  • We have been working really hard on 3-digit addition with regrouping. We will take our test this week and review what we have already learned this year.
