Math

We have finished Unit 1 in Math! So far we have covered Rounding, 3-digit Addition with and without regrouping, and 3-digit Subtraction with and without regrouping. We will be reviewing this material and taking a Unit assessment this week, then moving on to Unit 2. Unit 2 starts with an Introduction to Multiplication! We’ll start off by developing an understanding of what it means to multiply and different ways to represent multiplication visually.

Reading:
This week our comprehension strategy is Asking & Answering Questions.  The stories we are reading this week are “Mary Anderson’s Great Adventure” and “All Aboard! Elijah McCoy’s Steam Engine”. While reading, we are going to be paying close attention to text structure as well as cause and effect of events.

Phonics:
Long a:  ay, ai, a_e, ea, eigh, ei, ey

Vocabulary:
designed  –  encouraged  –  examine  –  investigation  –  quality  –  solution  –  simple  –  substitute

In class, we learn about these vocabulary words in connection to ourselves. If you notice your child using any of these words in context, this would be a great opportunity to celebrate their efforts!

SEPTEMBER POEMS
Each month students are required to memorize at least one poem.  Below are the month’s poems.  We only read through these in class once, so they need to be practiced at home.  Students can pass off poems on Fridays whenever they are ready to recite them.
