SEP’s coming home

Dear Parents,

I will be sending SEP’s on friday with the kids. I wish I had to time to meet with all of you to go over them! Since I don’t I wrote notes to each of you about your child on the bottom along with a goal for them. Please read these and go over with your student.

Here are a few things to look at on these SEP forms and what they mean:
Dibels: this is a reading test required by the state that we do three times a year. The score on your child’s form was taken at the beginning of the year.
Reading Interventions: These are things that we are doing in school constantly to help your student.
Math: The grade there is the overall term 1 score in math. This is not based off one test, this is based off all their work from the term compiled into an average score.
Fountas and Pinnell: This is a reading testing program used by our school. It is new to quest and is extremely difficult! Which is great, because it challenges our students. According to Fountas and Pinnell a standard 2nd grade level is J at the very beginning. Many of our kids are not at grade level, along with many of the other 2nd grade classes. This doesn’t mean your child is behind. The test is mostly based off of comprehension skills. DEEP critical thinking. This is still a tuff thing for a 2nd grader and we are learning a lot of these skill this year.

I am proud of these kids this year! They are so smart and doing so well! We are diving right in and moving fast this year and these kids are working hard!

Please if you have any questions or concerns about the form don’t be afraid to email me and if you would like to meet there is a parent conference in November on Thursday the 17th.

Thanks for all the hard work your doing at home! The homework can be a lot sometimes and you parents are a big part of your child’s success here at school.

Sincerely,
MRS. WOODROW
