Reading Strategies

We have added “Flippy Dolphin” and “Skippy Frog” to our list of Reading Strategies.

Flippy Dolphin

“Flippy Dolphin”
helps us if a word does not sound right, we may need to flip the vowel sound. Try a short vowel, long vowel flip. Another flippy dolphin clue; when two vowels go walking, the first one sometimes does the talking.

Skippy Frog“Skippy Frog”
says “skip it, skip it”.   If you have tried your best, skip the word and read the rest.  Read to the end and then come back again.  By skipping the word and reading to the end of the sentence the reader can use other clues to help them figure out the word.

Practice Library Book

Your child will be brought home a “Practice Library Book” last Tuesday, to help teach them how to be responsible with their library books by taking good care of them and remembering to return them on time.  Mrs. Anderson, our wonderful librarian at Q1, will allow them to start checking out books starting November 5 after they’ve brought back the practice book.   Our library day is on Tuesdays, so it would be great practice if they could return it by this next Tuesday (Oct. 27).
