Library Tomorrow

Owl On Books
Library books are due every Thursday morning.

Checking out books from our school library is a privilege.

To check out books students are expected to:

1- Follow the library rules (be respectful, follow directions, use a library voice, etc.)

2- Return library books (no outstanding books)

3- Select a book during the allotted time

Library day is tomorrow Thursday, JANUARY 16th. Please have your student come prepared to turn in their library book. Last week there were quite a few students who forget their library book and were unable to check out a new book.

Optional Reading for Test Preparation

Hi Parents,

Just a reminder about our new reading homework.  You’ll see a new passage come home with your student today.  We begin testing the week we return from Winter Break.  Please have your student practice these passages and complete the activities over the Winter Break so they can be better prepared for their testing session.  It is very difficult without daily reading to achieve reaching the middle of the year required benchmark.

  • Students should read this passage three times each day Monday – Thursday.
  • This counts towards the recommended 20 minutes of reading each day.
  • This is suggested reading homework, but is not required.
  • Parents may sign the worksheet and return it to school on Fridays.  Students who completed and return their homework will be entered into a weekly drawing.

Reading Passages

Hello Parents,
A new reading passage will be coming home with your student on Tuesday.  Look in his/her green folder.  One side has a reading fluency passage, the other side has instructions and activities.
  • Students should read this passage three times each day Monday – Thursday.
  • The passage is quite easy.  I will send more difficult reading passages home over the coming weeks.  (I wanted to start with something easy to get students used to the new routine.)
  • This counts towards the recommended 20 minutes of reading each day.
  • This is suggested reading practice, but is not required.
  • Parents may sign the worksheet and return it to school on Fridays.  Students who completed and return their homework will be entered into a weekly drawing.
  • You will see a fluency passage come home every Monday now.  This will be ongoing extra reading practice.

Perseverance Growth Mindset

In our class we are discussing how we can keep working, keep trying, keep practicing in order to reach mastery of standards.  The following clip we viewed with the students and discussed some strategies they can use themselves to have perseverance just like llama.

This llama does everything he can to reach his goal and doesn’t let the obstacles keep him down! Think about the following questions as you watch the short clip:

  • What challenges does the llama face?
  • How did the llama persevere toward his goal?
  • What feelings do you think he experienced while chasing the fruit?
  • How does it feel when you face challenges when you’re working towards a goal?
  • What kind of things can you say to yourself to help you persevere toward a goal?
