Here’s how we’re making mental pictures of our doubles

2 + 2 = 4      Picture a wagon with 2 wheels on each side and 4 wheels total

3 + 3 = 6      Picture a 6 pack of soft drinks, with 3 cans on each side

4 + 4 = 8      Picture a spider with 4 legs on each side and 8 legs total

5 + 5 = 10   Picture 5 fingers on each hand and 10 fingers total

6 + 6 = 12   Picture a dozen of eggs with 6 eggs in each row and 12 eggs total

7 + 7 = 14   Picture two weeks on a calendar with 7 days in each week and 14 days total

8 + 8 = 16   Picture a 16 pack of crayons with 8 crayons in each row and 16 crayons total

9 + 9 = 18   Picture a semi (18 wheeler) with 9 wheels on each side and 18 wheels total

10 + 10 = 20  Picture all your fingers and toes for a total of 20

Family Pictures due Monday if possible

HeredityDear Parents,

In the next science unit,  your child will be exploring with Mrs. Vella the similarities and differences in characteristics when comparing offspring to parents and siblings to siblings.  This is especially fun for the students if they can bring in pictures of themselves and their families.  If you are able to, please send in a family photo, or a one page collage of the members of your family either this Monday, April 15th or the next Monday, April 22nd.

If your children are adopted or in a blended family, your pictures are most welcome!  Mrs. Teichert’s children are adopted and she brings in their pictures to show that even though we don’t share the same genetic traits, we share the same traits that make us humans.  Even biological families often don’t look like each other and it gives us lots of examples to talk about.

Thank You!!

Doubles

STEM SLIME!

Today the kids got to try to make slime in their groups! Some groups were successful, however, some weren’t. We talked about how sometimes in life people are successful and others aren’t and we have to be happy for them. Don’t worry Thursday we are all going to make it and be successful!

Math Centers!

pick me
Hey I am looking for a parent volunteer from 1:30 pm – 2:30pm (roughly) Tuesday’s and Wednesdays for math centers. Students go at their own pace to work on 4 tasks. When they are finished with two of them I need a parent who can walk around and look over work to make sure it is completed correctly and remind students of expectations while I call groups back to work with them on various things. Once all students complete the first two tasks I would have you help call students out to work on math facts in the hall. We have already done centers but I just realized having an extra person in the room would be so helpful so I am not interrupted with checking work. Please email Mrs. Bischoff if you are available and if you can start this upcoming week that would be GREAT! 🙂
