Homework February 9th – 13th

Homework this week is due on Friday, February 13th:

** As clarification:  our class has been doing the same center work for 4+ months now.  The students have 1 1/2 hours every morning to complete this work during our language arts and math centers time.  If your child comes home and tells you that they need to do Spelling City for Vocabulary or Spelling it is because they chose not do it during their centers time in class.  It is not homework, but work they chose not to do during centers.  My students complete a writing journal, math journal, sort page daily, teacher time, and computer time each day.  I have the majority of my students who finish early and get to participate in free choice. I will not be sending home their writing, math, or sort journals with them as they use them daily.  If your student does not complete their centers work during centers time they will be receiving a zero score for that days work. They will however receive their Spelling City or Vocabulary points should they choose to complete that work at home.**

1- Math Homework:  This week we are back to the printed Math pages as homework due to the lack of participation doing computer only work.  For those students who did the math computer work-thank you!  This week your child can do a few problems every night if it gets overwhelming for them.

Valentine’s Party & Exchange

happy valentines

We will be celebrating our friendships by exchanging Valentines on Friday, February 13th. If your child would like to participate, please send 27 Valentines, one for every student in our class.  In order to save time, please leave the “To” section blank and just have your child sign their name in the “From” section.  Your child is welcome to bring in a decorated shoe box to collect their Valentine’s in if they wish to do so.  Enjoy!

We will also be having our Valentine’s Party from 1:30 – 3:00 pm on Friday, February 13th.  Please contact Brady & Annette Herbert if you would like to volunteer to help at (801) 989-0196 or email: motyvea@gmail.com.  Each classroom will be doing a few activities and will rotate between the 1st grade classes.

Homework for February 2 – 6th

Homework this week is due on Friday, February 6:
* LIBRARY DAY IS TUESDAY

*  There was some confusion on what is homework and required and what is additional/optional for those students who request more work, or really want to excel.   Students are required to complete their word sort daily and their high frequency words daily listed on the Weekly Homework Organizer Form.  We complete Spelling City activities in class, if the students choose not to complete it during their time given to do so during Centers time it will need  to be completed at home in order to receive the credit for it.

We have been doing the same center work since school began and students need to be completing their writing journal, math journal, sort packet, and Spelling City. Citizenship points are deducted from the overall grade when students choose to not complete their centers work.  Spelling City, Moby Max, FrontRow Ed, Coding, Vocabulary in Spelling City, one minute Timed Fluency Sheet are all optional resources available to use if not assigned as homework for that week.  I hope this clears up any confusion.

1- Math Homework:  Please have your student log into one of the following programs for their math homework this week:  Moby Max, Front Row Ed, or Xtra Math. I will be pulling the reports at the end of the week for their Math Homework scores.

2- Reading 20 minutes per day, at least two of these times a week on Raz Kids and taking the comprehension tests by clicking on the question marks after reading the books. I will be pulling the Raz Kids reports on Friday to update the reading scores.

3- Timed Fluency Practice.  This daily one-minute timed fluency reading will help your student become a fluent reader.  It will also count for reading minutes.

Dear Parents:

I wanted to post a little note to let you know to be very proud of your kiddo’s.  Even though I was not there, they listened to their substitute and did what she asked of them.  A big thanks to our substitute, Mrs. Sosi-she was wonderful!

As per the notification from the administration, there was a bomb threat and measures were quickly put into place.  As a staff, we appreciate all of your patience and cooperation during this process.  Please talk with your students and let them know everything is ok.  I will be there with big hugs and reassurance tomorrow.

No bomb was located and the student responsible will not be returning to Quest.  Please give your cute kiddo’s a big hug tonight from me and let them know I am so proud of them.

We also appreciate the quick response of the Weber County Sherriff Department, Weber County Fire Department, and the multiple K-9 units. We apologize for the lateness of this information, as we were just recently allowed back into the building to access our computers.
