Hip Hip Hooray! It’s almost the 100th day!

100 days of school
The 100th Day of School lands on Wednesday, February 6 and we are excited to celebrate!  Each child is welcome to bring a collection of 100 items that day to school (100 buttons, 100 signatures, 100 pom poms…) It’s fun to see what 100 of something looks like!  Just a couple guidelines:
* Please let your child only bring in a collection that they can carry and manage by themselves (in fact it would be nice if it could fit in their cubbies)
* No food items (per Quest policy)
*Please no items that have been banned (like Pokemon cards or bey blades)
*Have fun thinking of a creative or unique collection you want to bring :)

Valentine’s Boxes & Valentines

Pg69f_colorStudents are welcome to bring a bag or box from home on Valentine’s to collect their Valentine’s cards in. Today we talked about ideas for boxes and discussed that this is an optional activity. Here is a link to the pictures we looked at: Valentine’s Box Ideas

Valentine’s Helpful Hints:
1- We have 24 students in our class.
2- Only write who the Valentine is FROM. Do NOT address Valentine’s to each student (this will help the students distribute their Valentine’s in a more orderly manner).
3- Your student is welcome to decorate a box from home and bring it to school on the day of the party (February 14th). Please note: This is not mandatory.
4- To follow Quest’s wellness policy, only nonfood Valentine’s. Thank you.

“Per Quest’s wellness policy, all food in the classroom must be pre approved. Furthermore, parental permission is also required for students to consume food during class parties. Due to this policy—as in years past—student Valentines cannot contain edible items. Suggestions for nonfood Valentines include pencils, erasers, bubbles, stickers, etc. Please note that such items, including Valentine cards, are in no way required.”

Homework 1/22-1/25

Homework is due Friday, January 25th.

1- Math Homework:
  • A letter titled “Dear Family” will be sent home in your child’s green take-home-folder (Monday).  This week’s math activity is a review of the same math activity from last week. Please have your student review it as the students still need some extra work on it.  It provides an activity to do together.  Please read the letter and invite your child to share what they know about the concept by doing the activity together. You do not need to return the math homework this week.
Optional: for extra math practice, play any of these Math Fact Activities 2018

2- Reading Fluency on Raz-Kids.  This past week we officially began RAZ-KIDS our online reading homework. Each Friday I will pull an online report showing student usage for the week and their comprehension scores for the quizzes they have taken.

Please let me know if you have any questions about the program.
Happy reading :)

Total Lunar Eclipse

Eclipse-phases-Sept-25-Jamie-Cooper
We are excited about the total lunar eclipse this coming Sunday, Jan. 20th. We learned why the moon appears red during the eclipse on Mystery Doug.  I’m hoping for a clear sky to see it when it reaches a total eclipse (beginning at 9:41 pm).  If the kids get a chance to view it, I can’t wait to hear about their experience when they return on Tuesday!  Happy moon watching!
