Mission K9 Rescue Service Project

This year our 1st grade students have been donating coins for Mission K9 Rescue. We will be presenting their donation during our Patriotic Program on Tuesday, May 22nd. Donations are still being collected. Let’s finish strong!  There will be a dollar dress down day this Friday, May 11th to raise funds for Mission K9 Rescue. Feel free to donate whatever amount you feel appropriate.

As a reminder here is our post from January about this service project:

mission-k9-rescueMazzie, a war dog who was abandoned in Kuwait after his service visited our classroom.  We learned about the sacrifices many dogs are making to protect the lives of our soldiers.  Unfortunately, these dogs can be left behind after their work is done. Mission K-9 Rescue is striving to Rescue, Reunite, Re-Home, Rehabilitate and Repair any retired working dog that has served mankind in some capacity.

This year for one of 1st Grade service learning projects is collecting coins to donate to Mission K9 Rescue.

As a First Grade we have been learning that everyone can serve and help others through stories such as “The Lion and the Mouse”. Though our children may be young, they too can make an important difference and our small contributions of a coin here and a few coins there will truly add up to something great.

We are also learning about financial literacy principles; for example, we are learning about the principle of saving and we are learning that, to earn money, one must work.  We are encouraging our students to do extra jobs at home for family or friends to earn coins to add to our Mission K9 Rescue fund.

Homework 4/30-5/4

Homework this week is due on FRIDAY, May 4th:

PRINT THIS Homework Tracker

  • Worksheets: Please look in your child’s green folder on Monday for worksheets with concepts that have been taught in class.  The purpose of this homework is for a quick review, some practice, and a chance for parents to see what their child is learning in math.  Please complete every other problem (alternate between evens and odds so your child gets practice doing story problems AND “Vocabulary Check”/ “Test Practice” problems each week).  If your child wants to do every problem they are certainly free to do so!  :) Please help your child read the directions/example problems and allow them to talk about the problems as they figure out the answers.
  • Math Fluency Timings: Click Math Timings Tracker ( I have highlighted the box yellow on the one your child is at) to see where your child is at on math timings. Then print the page of timing they are working on. Addition and Subtraction Fluency Timings. Print the page they are working on and put it in a sheet protector in your child’s green folder. Time them for 1 minute and 15 seconds twice. Have them use an expo to write their answers that way you can reuse sheets.

  • HARDER TIMINGS: If your child has passed off all the other timings here are some new timings I made. They should not have to regroup and should be able to either count on, count back, or know it by heart. Print off Harder Math Timings 10-20.  Here is the tracker to know where your child is at Math Timings Tracker. Time them still for 1 minute 15 seconds. Please let me know if you need help with anything.

Just a note to say THANK YOU!

Parents,

In the 3 years I have been teaching I had yet to cry in the classroom until today. Your sweet children gave me the most precious notes and more hugs than I can count. I walked in at the end of my morning to say hi and tell them I will still be around and in less than 2 minutes I was in tears. I just want you to know I love your children and not finishing out the year with them is going to be tough, but like I told them I will still be around. Mrs. Nelson and I plan to do a few things together so I can still see them.

Thank you for an amazing year and for sharing them with me. I have passed everything along to Mrs. Nelson and she knows where your students are at. She will pick up right where I left on in math and I will continue to work close with her. Thanks again!

Mrs. Bischoff
 Warmed-Heart
